Every day. I carry a G20 with buffalo bore HP, or buffalo bore 220 grain hardcast. It's no problem to shoot. It's also my first pistol.

Around town the G23 is my CCW because of it's smaller size, however, in the woods or traveling, my 14 year old custom G20 longslide is my favorite, hands down.

I have no problem w/ a 10mm and have carried it on-the-job. The recoil impulse is stiffer, and really doesn't do anything a .40S&W does, which is one of two calibers I currently carry, the other being .45ACP.

For anti-personnel protection, no.
Unduly zippy & more recoil than needed, which affects recovery between shots.

I do have a Glock G20SF being rebuilt at Robar right now, and I'm looking forward to getting it back & seeing what they've done to it.

A bunch of work, including a much needed grip reduction.

I've been a longtime magnum revolver user in the wilds, but the idea of the Glock in 10mm WITH the right loads may have some merit worth looking into.
Emphasis on the right loads.
I've got about 10 on the shelves, I'll see how the idea stacks up when the gun returns.

Even in the Glock 20 it is zippy? I have not shot the 10MM in a glock 20, in other platforms it feels like a hot 45ACP possibly a +P more of a push than snappy. Buffalo Bore has produced some "tactical" 10MM ammo that I will be trying soon.

The Glock seems to be one of the softest-shooting 10s, but it still produces more recoil than the 9 I currently carry for people defense.

I have BB loads among the bunch to test.

DPris,

Take a few pictures of your project when you get it back, and post it for us.

As for BB make sure it is the tactical low recoil. It was specifically designed for self defense

I'd only care to carry 10mm for self defense in brown bear territory. I shoot .380 ACP, 9mm Parabellum, and .357 SIG for self defense. That covers all my needs and then some. I would like to get a 10mm for the coolness factor.

When I am to select a handgun/caliber for defensive use, I prefer to go with a type and model that offer a lot more choices in availability, spare parts, and reloading components, since I am a reloader as well.

The 10mm just seems to still be a rare bird to me. Of course, not rare as in "8mm pinfire in original mint condition", but still rare amongst 9mm, 45 ACP, .357 Mag, .45LC and .44 Mag. Walk into a gun store and you will immediately find options in all of the abovementioned calibers in front of your eyes, but trying to locate the place where the 10mm's hang out may take a second or even a bit of asking.

If I want that combination of power AND mag capacity in a defensive handgun, I will just choose one of the tactical doublestacks and 9mm+P with HP or XTP loadings. I would rent a 10mm at a range to have a blast any day, but own one, I don't think so.

Thanks for posting the Underwood Nosler 150 test results, very good performance
I load that bullet about 1,400 fps (1,402 fps average from 5'' barrel) which is real close to your test average.

I purchased my 10mm when a bear was spotted in a community some 50 miles away. Each year, there are bear sightings closer and closer to the city where I live. Once someone spots a bear downtown, I'll start packing my 10mm. Until then, I'll settle for something a little less powerful.
You are in Lexington KY and the only bears in KY are the common Black Bear which are hardly a threat to humans. Matter of fact they avoid us. I have run across several in West Virginia while deer hunting and they had no interest in me at all.

This poor black bear turned up a few blocks from my home here in Bedford Heights, Ohio. Hell I felt sorry for the bear which eventually came down and wandered into a local wooded area. We are not looking at a grizzly bear or other aggressive bear here. There are no Grizzly bears in Lexington KY as far as I know.

Back on topic, would I carry a 10 mm for a CCW? Yes, but I am more comfortable with other options and choices. Currently I carry a compact .45 ACP which I like.
