Sunset provisions
I hope everyone involved in state groups is at least trying to put sunset provisions in all these proposed regulations. If we have to lose some of these fights in a few states PLEASE at least try to schedule a date for another round.
For me, the one great lesson from the '94 AWB. If not for the sunset provision we would still have it. |

Sunset provisions should be for every law
Sunset provisions should be for every law. Even laws which work when passed won't necessarily work further down the road.

Every all should sunset after 7 years and if it a good law renew it. The average person breaks 100 to 200 laws a year and never know it. Most are laws made a long time ago and were never repealed. Example North Carolina passed a lottery but did not repeal the law that stated possession of lottery tickets was a misdemeanor.

The lack of term limits is the reason we have so many laws....govt would never willingly give up its power.
NPR had a Parkland victim's family on the radio, crying, and the father tearfully said "we allowed him to have that weapon, WE ARE TO BLAME!" Sound familiar? The Assault Weapon ban of 1994 had zero effect on crime and did not stop an even more lethal encounter at Columbine. Those two used handguns and 10 round mags if I recall correctly. Gun free zone worked as advertised (people that obeyed the law were helpless) and police stayed outside so nothing has changed. |
