Cartman, I think you have quoted an assembly number, not the serial number. Assembly numbers are often stamped on the frame under the crane, it was a number for keeping track of parts at the factory. The serial number should be on the underside of the grip frame, you may have to take off the grips to see it.
If it is a prewar K22 Outdoorsman then the serial number range is 632132 to 682419. If it is a prewar K22 Masterpiece then the serial number range is 682420 to 696952. If it is a post war K22 Masterpiece then it should have a K prefix to the serial number. If it is a post 1957 Model 17 it should have a K prefix or within the serial number and have model 17 stamped under the crane on the frame. Thanks for the info but I took the grips off and has the same number stamped on the grips, and the cyclinder, I have enclosed a few photos with this post Last edited by Glenn E. Cartman,
Turn the gun upside down. On the bottom of the grip frame is the serial number. "K" and some digits. If it's K42XXX that would place it in 1948. Jim |

Thanks, I have enclosed a few pictures and I looked again and the only numbers that are on the gun are on the bottom of the butt, the cyclinder, the grips, and the bottom of the barrel and all match the K42298. there is another number under the crane but I believe it may be a production number and it is 31336.
Thanks again for your help Last edited by Glenn E. Meyer; November 30, 2013 at 11:47 AM. |

Ok thanks, It is registered though I bought it from a gun dealer two days ago. He called it in with the background check. I thought I got a good deal on it though I really appreciate the help. Ok took the grips off and found a c stamped on the handle.

hiyabrad: 1978-1980. The model 28 was introduced as the Highway Patrolman in 1954, given the model number 28 in 1957 and continued in production until 1986. Your model should be have a pinned barrel and recessed cylinder, these were discontinued with the model 28-3 in 1982.
