S&W 17-3 Age, Value
I have a S&W 17-3 SN 741XX and wonder about it's age.
Also, there is a 1"X3/16" patch of light rust on the barrel- a piece of paper in the case attracted moisture. It has light rust under the wooden grips as they also collected moisture. I would like to know how much the rust will detract from it's value. Thanks for any help. |

S & W mosdel 36 DOB
Went out to eat after church and my wife asked me what revolvers were on my bucket list. I told her I had a long list but realy wanted a Model 36 to replace the one I sold 40+ years ago. Stopped in gun shop and there in the case was a model 36-2. It was like new just a faint turn ring so it came home with me. I have been told Christmas is coming so I can not purchase the SMITH 8 WESSON BOOK. I can't wait ,so here is the sn BDU54xx. Thank you J

Value depends on condition and can range from around $500 to well over 1K in mint. Quote:
That said, 17-3's were made from 1967 to 1977. As far as the rust, it will detract from the value. As far as how much, it depends on how much it bothers a potential buyer. Quote:

S & M 38 revolver
Looking for a D.O.B. and a model # for serial #7499xx. there is also a "p" stamped on the bottom of the handle butt on the right side away from the serial number. It has a 4" barrel, 6 shot and is blued. The condition is EXCELLENT and also has the name Parker Hale ( England) on the barrel sight.

S&W 586-4 rare 3-inch - Info requested
Today I saw what I'm told is an extremely rare 3-inch 586-4. It has a special order #4214 on the box. It has rubber grips that were said to be original.
Looking for a D.O.B. on serial #BRU4nn. Any other information you have on production numbers, story behind the special order, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Wade |

Is there a "V" prefix near the serial number, it may be 1/2" or so from the number. Quote:
There should be a 6 digit product code number on the box also. That number would help me to identify it better since there were 3 different releases with the 3" barrel. Jim |

jimmersback,
SN 7499xx would date to around 1940. It's a S&W model K-200. They were sold to England as the .38/200 British Service Revolver chambered in 38 S&W (not to be confused with 38 special). Allot of these found their way back to the USA thru such companies as Parker Hale in England. Jim |

SN's ran from D1 to D90000 that year. Quote:
That was a special run of 3" 586's made for RSR distributors in the mid 90's. The SCSW does not break it out any further. The guys over on the S&W forum might be able to give you more information about it. jimmersback, Hard to say but I'd guess about $500. Jim |

You can call S&W's customer service and they will give you the DOB over the phone for free. 1-800-331-0852 (USA) Mon-Fri 8:00AM-8:00PM Eastern Time Quote:
That is a really good price for that gun. A 686-4 with the 2.5" barrel would sale for around $650 here in the US. It is one of the best made 357 revolvers. Jim |
