Sig X5 All around redesigned
Just found this comparison of the standard X-Five and the new redesign...
I gotta say... I don't really like the new design.

I own an X5E CLassic. I purchased it as sort of a grail gun. But, that is not the only reason. This new X5 is a new modular design. One can start with a base model and add assecories to become a full blown race gun. Very neat in my opinion. Everything bolts on and no need for drilling or modifing. Search under new sig X5 and look for a youtube video. It is directly from the German website and will show the interchangeablility on the accesories. As for the rail, it is used as a mounting point for the accesories, weights scope mount or light if desired.

The logo on the side is just corny, looks like something you would see on a nerf gun. I swear, some of the people they put in charge of designing guns should to put it simply, not have their job.

I shot one at a Sig demo with a factory rep. I want one. I only wish I needed one. I'm just not that good. I don't care about the logo. It's shiny and it shoots great. Next case.

Looks like the faux beavertail has been scalloped out so you can grip it higher and the grip has been undercut below the trigger.
Otherwise the diagonal cocking serrations (front and rear) and the X-FIVER!!!! logo scream pimp gun. It's an ugly gun, and cleaning up the lines would do Sig a world of good. Also, I really have a problem paying close to semi-custom 1911 money for a Sig.

IMO & experience, SIG's work and 1911's don't. Different folks. I don't mind it enough to say I don't like it. I do prefer the older version though. |

While the 952 is a keeper, 9mm is more of a challenge to get target accuracy out of than .45 Auto. I now have some loads that are at or under 2" @ 50 yards with the 952 but even a well made production 1911 can do that if you work with loads carefully and you can get that 1911 even now for like $1200 or less. The X5 is a fine pistol but I can't see it beating a lot of 1911s that can be had cheaper. |

If they could drop the front cocking serrations and remove the logo or at least change it to a sleek cursive type of font I could deal with the rail since it does serve a purpose and they would have something I want again.
But hey....I like my gun lines clean. Just like my cars, trucks and motorcycles. |

I thought the X5 was a competition gun. What's the rail for?

I like the new design except for the goofy Xfive logo. The rail??? still up in the air...

Not sure about the All Around but the X-5 L1 will shoot circles "around" quite a few of the semi custom 1911s on the market today. Between myself and a couple friends we own, or have owned, most of the semi custom 1911s. Some of them come with a test target shot at 15 yards. Here is the target that came with my Sig shot at 27 yards. |

As far as 9mms, here is my 952 Smith @ 50 yards. It too is very accurate. Taking nothing away from the X5, it is a good pistol, but it is hard to beat 1911s on the target range. That is why there are so many of them out there. |

The rail is fine by me, might as well put all that steel there to good use. The new slide profile, etc, not so much. I'll just keep my old one...ymmv

they need to bring back the x5 tactical. There are some of us out here that want a factory threaded barrel and a rail.

I think it looks alright and it appears Sig put a lot of time and effort into making this gun a player in the entry level race community.
As Robk so intelligently and articulately pointed out, this gun is going after an entry level competition niche and in that roll it should do quite well. I'm at that age where most of the crap I bought new is now old school. ... Like my first Sig I bought new in 1988. Jeeze, even my new X5 is now old school and I've owned it less than 6 months. Everything is happening so fast! Will I ever be trendy again? My daughter thinks not. I've owned dozens of Sigs over the years, but my first Sig and my most recent remain two of my favorites... |

trigger, I think your favorites are two of the Best. Still have my X-5 AR, but sure wish I'd hung on to the first all German P226, or two or three I had, from about '86-'87...

I don't like the new design. Putting the obnoxious logo aside, the former X-5 has much finer checkering on the front and backstrap of the frame. What's the point of the big blocky rail? I don't like the front bevel or the new slide serrations. I do like the thinner beavertail and the wood grips, but that's about it.
I have a Sig X-Five Competition 9mm. I absolutely love shooting this gun because it makes me look like I'm a much better than I really am. What I mean by this is that I can usually beat anyone in our group shooting something other than a really high end 1911 in what I call the "bottle competition". We line up 9 water bottles for two shooters. The shooter on the left side shoots left-to-right; the shooter on the right side shoots right-to-left. A 3rd party yells "GO". The goal is to be the first one to shoot the 5th bottle, and continue shooting the other guy's bottles...if you are that fast. The winners continue to shoot-off against the winners. This is supposed to test your accuracy, speed, with a little bit of pressure. But, I also think it tests the quality of the gun being used as well as the shooter. |

It comes down to what you like best....I have a Sig X-Five L1 model ( had it about 10 yrs in .40S&W and its a very nice gun )...and while its probably in the top 5 guns in my safe....
my #1 and #2 guns in my safe are both Wilson Combat 1911's in 5" - one in 9mm and one in .45 acp.... #3 is probably a model 27-2 S&W revolver in .357 mag - a nickel 4"gun ...and #4 is probably my Freedom Arms single action 4 3/4", octagonal barrel, in .357 mag premier grade 5 shot....and then the X-Five.... but all of us will look at it differently - and that's ok too... |
