Kurt Jaeger-Mainz Remington .30-06

I have a Kurt Jaeger-Mainz engraved Remington .30-06 I am trying to get an accurate value on. If someone can help me out that would be great!

Normally I'd say around 2k if it would be built on a Mauser action. But what you got is basically a Ford Mustang in Lederhosen, classic German oak leaves and animal scenes on an American rifle, down to the diamond inlays in the stock. You'll need to find a very specialized collector to get full value for that.

Hmmm, A Remington 721, engraved in classic German oak leaves and game scenes, wrapped in a straight-grained factory stock, with Southwest diamond inlays. Oooooh, ooooh, I know! It's a cosmopolitan rifle, right?

mapjanshere is right, it does not compute. Beautiful engraving, but it doesn't really fit with the stock. My bet is that either (1) the owner ran out of money during the build, or (2) the owner had to replace the stock at some point for some reason, or (3) the owner picked it up like that and had no idea what they had. If you were going to sell it, it would be worth as much as any 721. If you were going to restock it, it would cost a bit to match and synchronize with the engraving.

My grandpa was in the 82cnd airborne I was told that he bought the rifle while in Germany?

Mainz and the surrounding area had a very large US garrison, so that is very well possible. My guess is that someone took a PX-sold gun and had it decorated, not caring about the clash of stile.

That's probably right. When I was stationed near Wurzburg I took a .45
which I'd purchased from our Rod & Gun club to a German sporting goods
place(Waffen Franconia) and had it refinished. They did a beautiful polishing
and blueing job on it,.....and destroyed all collectors value which would have
accrued over the years. (It was a WWII Remington Rand)

FWIW, I think I can top that with a true story.

Some years ago, a young man in the Washington area became friends with the son of a jeweler and master engraver. The old man knew nothing about guns, but when he learned the younger man had some, he asked him to bring one in for engraving. The engraver put a few scrolls on an S&W revolver, and asked about other guns. So a Winchester 94 got the same treatment, and then the engraver offered to do the same to the only other rifle the young man had. But when the rifle was brought to the engraver, he decided to really go whole hog just for his own pleasure.

The result was the only case I know of a $5000 engraving job on a Carcano.

Along with the engraved Remington 721 rifle I got his WWII Remington Rand. Its in great shape(and not engraved!)

As I get older I find hitting a mini ram at 200 yards with the 22 oddly more satisfying.
