Smith and wesson 642 UC

There were 4 revolvers manufactured by S&W for exclusive distribution by Lipseys.
The guns were 642UC 38 special in stainless,442UC 38 special blued, 432UC 32 H&R magnum blued and 632UC 32H&R magnum in stainless.
Each gun has XS big dot front sight, VS grips, better trigger and some other enhancements
I purchased a 642UC, trigger is smooth but a bit heavy and I like the big dot front sight.
.

Nice acquisition! I’ll be adding one of the .32 Mag variants to the collection soon myself.

I bought a 432UC, haven't fired it yet.
Waiting on Starline brass to appear--have the rest of the required components standing by.

Just ordered a 632 UC today. Should have it by the end of the week!

The sight of the dreaded Hillary Hole kills the desire to own a S&W revolver.

Very sad.

Post 6,
The UC series (632UC, 432UC, 642UC, and 442UC) don't have the internal lock system (ILS) parts. There are other various S&W "Centennial" models which do not have the ILS, too, if that's all which is holding a person back from buying any S&W revolver.

Just an fyi.

"The sight of the dreaded Hillary Hole kills the desire to own a S&W revolver."

There is no Hillary Hole in these revolvers.
I have a 432UC and it's a very nice revolver.
Wouldn't mind adding a 442UC, but we'll see how it goes.

I bought a regular 642 some years back and had the choice of the lock or not; I chose not..........

I want a 632UC or 432UC 32H&R magnum to add to the collection. I have had an eye out for one but no dice yet.

I've been on the .32 revolver bandwagon for years, originally that was for .327, but recently I've been evolving my thoughts given more information I read and experience. I think I would prefer to use .32 H&R in a snub over .327 because I think it will do the job and do it with less blast and recoil, kind of like how .38 +P is with .357 Mag. The problem is I find .327 does not play well with shorter cartridges like .32 HR Mag, .32 S&W Lg, or .32 S&W as velocity loss is greater using those in a .327 than in a .32 H&R, so if I'm going to use .32 H&R or .32 S&W Long it makes all the sense in the world to get a .32 H&R Mag chambered revolver.

The 442UC/642UC is being considered, but I will give Ruger and Taurus time to figure out that there's still a place for an ultralight revolver in .32 H&R Mag in a world where .327 also exists. I'd rather get an LCR in .32 Mag over the S&W, but for those with less patience than I, you can't go wrong with the S&W.

But how much velocity loss are we talking about TruthTellers and will it make any real-world difference at self-defense distances with sub 2" barrels?

With .32 Long, they're not going fast enough to expand anything, so there's no loss there. The loss would be in penetration, you could get more due to the higher velocity of a non .327.

.32 H&R, if the loss is equal (I have to test this) it can be the difference of an expanded hollow point or not.

We put a lot of focus on what's the best and giving up power is seldom a better solution.

I would be more concerned with large barrel-cylinder gap because S&W ships them up to 0.010" now.
You lose about 50 fps compared to what was considered Mean Assembly Tolerance prior to 1984.

I didn't measure the gaps when I was testing .32 S&W, it was just a raw what's the velocity in different revolvers. The .32 short top break got the highest velocity, H&R Mag wasn't far behind, .32 S&W Long top break was third, and the .327's were dead last and within 10 fps of each other even with a 2 and 4 inch barrel.

The gap on the .32 Long top break was definitely larger than either .327's were, yet got a better velocity.
