What if...?

This started out strictly a brain exercise in "what-if".
But the more I think about it the more it seems possible.

There is a group of experimentets out there who are launching 600gr hard cast 12 gauge "bullets" at 2800fps (yes 2,800fps) out of bolt action and falling block shotguns.

They have devised a longer than standard 12 gauge case by adding a rimmed head to a modified .50 BMG case. First they machine off the rim and part of the head area and then thread on a turned rimmed base.

They either continue to use the BMG primer of use a spacer to utilize standard 209 primers.

Based on their experimentation of adding a rimmed head to a modified .50BMG case it seems to me that it would be quite easy to create a wildcat 12 gauge rimless cartridge based on a necked-up/blown-out .50 BMG case.

We couls call it the 12 gauge Browning Rimless or the 19mm Browning Shotgun.

It also seems to me that it would be possible to then install a 12 gauge Browning Rimless barrel on a .50 BMG rifle and in essence have a convertable rifle/shotgun unit since the bolt head would be the same.

Since the barrel is removed from the Barrett for normal takedown it seems to me that a second shotgun barrel would be easy to install.

If you could get the Barrett to function in semi-auto mode it seems to me that a 20" barreled, 12 gauge, M82 Barret would be the ultimate "Roadblocker" type shotgun.

Or the ultimate Goose gun.
I can see the advertisements now.

No Goose is safe from the new Barrett Cajones Grande shotgun!

So what do y'all think?
Is it possible? Feasable?
Or do I just need my meds adjusted?

Oh yes, I've been following that particular thread for some time now. I Love seeing what's going on in this little "experiment"... AKA I'd buy one when it's ready to spread among us selected few.

Yes Hubel458 is one of the people in the forefront of the experimentation.
I have been following his exploits on another forum with great interest.
His results with Dixie Slugs are certainly eyeopening to say the least.

Of course the 12 Gauge Browning Rimless would have to headspace on the mouth like all other straight-sided, rimless cartridges do.

For bolt action guns it could be marketed that with a simple bolt change, standard 12 gauge ammunition could be fired.

For Topper style guns (ouch!) an extractor could be designed that would work with both rimmed and rimless cases.
Probably would work with falling block actions as well.
