welding aluminum

I do not know where to put this thread.

I want to weld 1/4 inch 6061-T6 round bar. I do not have professional welding equipment and I was wondering if I could use a propane torch?

If I can use the propane torch what kind of welding rod can I use and how would I use it regarding temperature requirements and how to achieve the right temperature?

welding aluminum

There are only a few good ways to weld aluminum. The best is with a TIG welder which stands for tungsten inert gas. The other is a MIG welder set up with aluminum wire. TIG is by far the best. Is there a technical or community college in your area with a welding program? They might weld it for you for a small price just for the experience.

Welding questions are way outside the scope of the TFL mission. It would be best to ask the question on a dedicated welding forum such as http://weldingweb.com/
