My First Post Here!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey -

Great place!

I'm probably going to buy myself a 3913TSW but I'd like to hear opinions, pro and con, Please!

One question I have is about the rail, which I don't like. Can it be removed by a gunsmith?

Thanks-

RR

Rich,

Fancy meeting you here. Didn't take you long to post over here, I see.

OK, the rail question I can answer, sort of. I was complaining about the rail some time ago in a different thread and was told that S&W can remove it for you, and fill up the holes. I don't see why any competent gunsmith wouldn't be able to do the work (whether your warranty would remain intact is another matter). The only 3rd gen auto I have that has a frame rail is my 5943TSW. I don't mind it so much on a full size weapon. It's putting it on compact guns that baffles me. Seems to me the barrel is so short on the 3913, that you would have the flashlight lens forward of the muzzle (maybe torching it when you fire, who knows).

ReadyRich:

I have no experience with 3913TSW (never even seen one) but I had a 3913 years ago for few years and it was a great pistol. It was extremely reliable and accurate. I'm sure 3913TSW will perform just as well. If you don't like the rails on the TSW pistol why don't you look for a used 3913? I see very lightly used 3913 in LNIB condition quite often for only about $450.

Welcome to TFL!

The accessory rail is affixed to the dust cover by a pair of cap screws which can be removed, it'll just leave a couple of threaded holes once removed.

Hey! No making fun of my targets! You're just jealous because I can use mine two or three times because I don't put a bunch of holes all over them.

For pros, I like the thinness of the 39 series S&W. Also, it seems like S&W semi's have a reputation for feeding everything, great in a carry gun.
