I bought mine in 1971 at Sears and Roebuck for $75.00. Walked out of Sears carrying the rifle and 4 boxes of ammo. It has no Serial number, just a date code. I still have and shoot it. I also have the instruction sheet with a parts list, including the price of parts. I have no intention of selling it...will go to my grand daughter.

I recall seeing one on cover of gun mag, w/ the stock being driven over
w/ a vehicle back in the late 60s-70s or so.

Wasn't there some guy who shot something like 10,000 wood blocks, in the air, with a couple of 66s? (Only missed two?)

When we were kids, a gang of us would head into the woods that ran next to our housing development, armed with 22's, or an occasional 410, to rain havoc down on the wild life and stationary targets. Just imagine that today without all of us being arrested.
On these outings I carried a Stevens Favorite 22 that my dad gave me to use. Some of the kids with more extravagant parents had Nylon 66's or Marlin 60's. It was great times. That's what you're buying.

That was Ad Toepperwein and the total was over 75,000 blocks IIRC in two days. He was a factory demo shooter. Read up on him he was a heck of a shot.

I had a nylon 66 back around 1985 I bought in a pawn shop for $75. I wish I still had it. That was a shootin' SOB. It was one of the most natural pointing rifles I have ever shot. i even shot a finch out of the air with it off hand after a friend missed with a 12ga shotgun. The same day I shot a running cotton tail after the same friend missed it with the same 12ga shotgun. And after being shot at with that shotgun that rabbit was haulin' ass.

You will read that Remington dropped them because the molds were worn out. But I think in truth the 10/22 killed them off. IIRC it was F.I.E. in south America that bought the molds and started making them and the ones I looked at looked just as good as the Remington made guns.

They were unique and had their own corner of the market. If you see a deal on one give it a try.

There was a great picture that circulated with the Nylon 66 ads, the shooter lined up on a tossed wood block, and a tremendous pile of blocks nearby.

That would be difficult considering that Ad was an exhibition shooter for Winchester and shot blocks with 1903 .22 WSLs.

The Remington shooter was Tom Frye.

Didn’t Tom Frye shoot something like 100K blocks with only 2 or 3 misses?
I remember seeing the ad in Boys Life.

Mine hasnt been shot over 50 times.

We were going to have a Ruger steel shoot about 10 yrs ago at the club.

The organizer all of a sudden was transferred to Kansas and it never happened. Gun didnt get shot..
