80 grain a-max o.a.l.
I just started Shooting High Power and bought several heavy bullets for testing in my Bushmaster DCM8XR Service Rifle. The 77 Noslers worked good @ 600, several others strongly recommended the 80 grain A-MAX. I used my gauge and come out with an O.A.L 2370, that is 15 thousands off the lands.
It looks a little short, so my question is what are others using and they are for single loading slow fire @ 600 yards? I know guns vary just trying to get a general Idea for others that have used them. |

I shoot the same load for 600 yds as I do for 200 and 300, 68 gr Hornady Match Boat Tail Hollow Point over 26.0 gr of W748. I know a lot of guys have different loads for different ranges, but I have not seen it work better than what I shoot, and it creates the issue of having to single-feed the rounds.

Considering the rules require you to single load at 600 yards it creates no issues.
I personally shoot 80 grain SMK seated about .010" off the lands over 24.5 grains of Varget for the 600 Yard line. (Be advised this load is above max and you should work up to it.) Your load does sound a little short. Mine are around 2.490" to get to .010 off the lands. What kind of chamber do you have? |
