Winchester Model 94 30-30
Can you help?
My father-in-law is looking to sell his prize possession. His model 94, 30-30. It looks to be in very good condition. Limited wear on finish(blue) and stock is near perfect. He says it's a "Pre 64", sn#32359XX. He is the original owner and says he probably only put about 15 rounds through it. Any idea what ist's worth and any suggestions as to the best way to sell it? Any help would be appreciated. |

1969 manf date
http://www.savage99.com/winchester1894_dates.htm You can often get some general idea on current pricing by checking out Gunbroker.com and gunsamerica.com. They often tend to the high side, though. Private party versus sale at a gunshop that needs to make a profit reselling it will differ. |

Check your local and state laws and, if okay, you might do much better for him by having a local area auction with the reasons for the auction declared.
If you live in a rights-restrictive state, well, never mind. W.

$350-$400 is about average for a post 64 Win 94 in that condition.

Guns made after 1963 start at SN 2,700,000. Anything lower than that is pre-64. The prices quoted seem about right to me.
But prices are hard to predict and if you find the right buyer I wouldn't be surprised if someone paid $500+. Winchester hasn't made any USA made 94's in a while and people still want them. A lot of guys are holding on to theirs and prices are inching up. I wouldn't be interested in one at much over $300, but many others might. |

A great market to buy in
With the prices stated above, all I can say is this...that's a lot of gun for very little money..and a good one at that Love my Winchesters.

The earlier Post 64s generally have a lower pricing than later. By 1979, just a few years before the change over to USRAC in 1981, Winchester had finally made significant progress to improve the quality of fit finish and some specific parts that had suffered in the prior decade-plus. Consistency was still at times spotty and some will take issue with their particular gun, but more quality guns were being turned out--and you'll find a higher percentage of better guns from that later period that came much closer to the vaunted Pre 64s. In some markets, the price difference isn't that pronounced as the above is somewhat of a well kept secret, and you'll find some "finds" like the post above. Elsewhere, the more knowledgeable buyers will usually look--and pay at least a bit more--for one of these later guns.
