Wolf ammo 140 gr .308 5.6 MOA

I went back to the range and went through 13 different rounds for the .308 as a follow up to prior testing.
Federal 168 / 178 / 185 is the clear standard and the Berger 200’s were even better sub MOA, except they have to be manually inserted as they’re too long for the magazine.
But the real question is on that cheap Wolf soft point 140 gr round. Terrible 5.6 MOA (and all to the right).
Is that stuff really that bad?
All the other rounds tested were at most 2.5 MOA, with federal and Berger way better.

I figured it would be closer to a goose gun choke but this irregular pattern looked like 6" sawed off shotgun.

Two points, both of which could be completely my own fantasy....

1) .308 Win isn't a soviet caliber, so MAYBE they don't take as much care making it?

2) I hear a voice with an Eastern European accent saying "stupid Americans will buy dogpoo if they think they are getting a bargain!"

The latter might be closer if you put in “curious” vs stupid.

"...too long for the magazine..." Usually means they're too long for the chamber too. Max OAL for .308 is 2.800". Measure 'em.
"...all to the right..." That doesn't matter. That's just a sight adjustment. Mind you, at 5.6" groups, it means your rifle really dislikes that Wolf ammo. Mind you, their site doesn't list a 140 grain SP in .308 Win. They list a steel cased, 145, bimetal FMJ. And steel cased FMJ ammo isn't loaded for accuracy in any calibre.

Nope (1) and Nope (2) (to quote ACB).

1) They manually load fine, are "Dead Nuts Accurate", and found an adapter that makes it easy.

The 62 grain 223 ammo is loaded to about 2800fps. 5.56 nato green tip to about 3000. The steel cased ammo is plinker class at best. As long as it doesn't jam it's blasting ammo and that's about that. It's not built to U.S. standards.

Very little commonality between .223 and .308 rounds.

You mean like not using standard brass cases or being loaded to a standard velocity with comparable U.S. loads? Wolf quality is pretty much wolf quality. Their 7.62x39 ammo is probably the best of their product line for com block guns but there is so much better choices buying mil surplus brass cased 308 and 9mm and 45 and 357 mag out there. Just one mans opinion.

Federal gold 168 grain BTHP is my go to in 308 for accuracy shooting. I stay away from Wolf in anything other than 7.62x39.

+1 Smee. BTHP / OTM Federal 168, 178 and 185 (in particular) are rock solid, particularly the Jagernaught's. Went out twice this past week, and provide it again.
