Favorite or best sling?

What is your favorite or best sling?

I have a 7RM Browning with wood stock and a heavy barrel. Would a traditional padded leather sling work good enough

I use the padded nylon slings with a strip of non-slip on the padded side. Uncle Mikes maybe?

Brownells Quick-Set Latigo Sling

I outfit my hunting rifles with the Brownells Quick-Set Latigo Sling.

Another vote for the Brownells Latigo sling. It's a good carrying sling and a great shooting sling.

I’ve been using paracord slings & like ‘em a lot. Quite, strong, & you never know when a few yards of 550# paracord could come in handy.

Padded leather just adds weight and is cumbersome. These aren't cheap, but not really that bad considering the quality.

USA hand made of quality materials

https://www.montanagunslings.com/

I initially bought the 1 1/4" and a year or 2 later bought a 1" sling. The 1" version gets used a lot more. On a heavy rifle you might prefer the 1 1/4". They make black or tan. I've been meaning to buy a belt from him.

You can attach the sling either way. With the loop toward the forend you can use it as a shooting sling. With the loop toward the butt you get rough leather on your shoulder to prevent it from sliding off. I usually carry loop down. I may swap it once on stand, may not.

A video showing one on a rifle. Shown loop up.

The link below shows my favorite sling. I have these on a few rifles. They are flexible enough to not bind or pinch. And they are tacky on the side that contacts your shoulder, so it stays where you put it. I can wrap it around my arm and it helps stability. Very comfortable.

most used

I like a narrow sling, with ample length to be able to extend same and get it across my ample back if I need two hands to drag a deer or handle some other heavy item while managing the rifle also.

I made up several that are adequate back when you could find Mosin and SKS green web slings lying about the pawn shops for a couple of bucks if not cheaper. Added Uncle Mike sling swivels and a single slider and buckle. Have also done the same thing with narrow black nylon webbing/straps. The sling can be detached at the rear, and a loop fasthioned to form a suitable shooting sling as well.....though I've not had the occassion to use it that way afield.

I prefer a real shooting sling as opposed to a carrying sling like the discontinued Uncle Mikes 1.25" nylon Mountain with no pad but a sticky strip on the upper third to hold it on your shoulder.
Here's a quick video on using the Hasty sling method, he using it standing offhand but can be used in any position, I particularly like it for kneeling, it's easy and fast to get into and is steady enough for a pretty long shot. It doesn't work very well with slings that have those big pads on them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_sP0R39Wz0
I shot this deer at 140yds kneeling using just the sling and my knee under my left elbow for support, I missed the spot I was aiming at by an inch or so. He ran out of the cattails and totally surprised me on the way to my stand one afternoon.
Also if I could only have one sling for all my rifles here's the one, not inexpensive but it's undoubtley the best one I have.

I really like SKS slings. I have one leather sling that came on my 30-06 and it's fine enough, but if I am buying a new strap, then SKS.

Butler Creek padded bouncy neoprene slings. Like carrying your rifle as if it were a feather. They stay in place too and the swivels don't squeak or rattle. They are supple enough to use as a shooting sling should you feel the need.

I have a couple wide, padded Allen slings that I carry my heavy varmint rifles with and a double "backpack" sling for that purpose. 14-15 pounds of rifle gets tiresome.

Spec Ops Gear...reall Good hunting slings.

I like the patrol sling. Dad, thinks the master blaster sticky back is the best sling ever!

I also like TIS, if I’m gonna shoot with it...TIS

Here's another great sling made by Magpul, well made but the buckles are metal, the big sliding buckle is heavy and they're all more likely to damage a wood stock than a sling with synthetic buckles. That being said it's a great sling for an AR or synthetic stocked bolt gun.
So in order of preference for me would be the Blue force, Uncle Mikes mountain sling and the Magpul.
Sling choice is a very personal thing, almost like a belt, I have lots of friends that love those stretchy ones or the big leather hand tooled artsy slings.

Maybe they're not discontinued!

Yes, I do it with all my rifles with any type sling in field positions. Helps a lot.

I have the riflemann shooter's sling. It's an interesting concept, trying to combine a fast acting shooter sling in the form factor of a traditional sling. It's not as fast as a ching and is more fiddly than a standard field sling but it's done well for me thus far.

These slings are so underrated. I bought a 1.25” model and love it for my 10lb .338-06. I will eventually try a 1” on a lighter rifle, but I don’t see a great reason to buy any other sling.

I don't know the brand of my slings but all but one is a military type sling, great shooting aide. Have one padded leather sling I'd bought for a close friend as a Christmas present years ago, I have it only because he's gone now and has his initials on it.

That would be the beauty of military type slings, no matter what position you shoot from wrap it around your arm tight and it sill steady your hold a great deal.
