Advice on closed top dual magazine pouch vs. open top

I'm looking for some advice on the merits of a dual magazine belt pouch for my S&W Shield.

Right now I'm using two horizontal magazine holders on my belt and because of some mobility issues I'm thinking of changing to something like the attached.

Whats your experience with open top vs closed top holders?

Not an expert but I wouldn't use a magazine pouch that orients the mags in opposite directions like that. One orientation, one draw and insert operation.

Closed tops might be preferred if you carry in brush or places where lots of debris might get in the pouch or worried about weather affects (rain or snow getting in the pouch).
