5.45x39 AK Options
I'm looking for an AK-74 style rifle. Something I've been thinking of getting for a while but the one I was hoping to get (Arsenal SLR-104FR) is no longer produced. One will come up for sale every now and again but the prices seem way outta line.
Any suggestions on perhaps other options? I don't know a lot about the AK-74s so I'm open to ideas. Thanks!

Don't discount the Norinco/Polytech ones from the early 90's. Also the Romanian SAR-3 (I think or SAR-2). These are as close to military grade as you can get without spending the big bucks.
I've had good luck with Waffen Werks AK-74, but I had to send it back once. They aren't around any more. For brand new, probably only Arsenal. Gone are the days of high quality AKs for under $700-800 or so. |

Where can one buy 5.45x39 ammunition anymore? I wouldn't want to buy a rifle that I can't shoot.

On Gunbroker, I'm seeing several 5.45x39 options available for well under $1,500. I have a VEPR and if I thought I could get that much for mine, I'd sell it, for $600, no deal.
5.45x39 ammo is available in quantity at lots of places, this is where I usually buy mine from: https://www.sgammo.com/catalog/rifle...le/545x39-ammo |

Look on the secondary market OP, I'm not certain about any AK current production.

I have a Smith and Wesson M&P 15 R rifle and a custom made Kalishnikov AK 74 pistol.
Love to shoot both of them. I have approximately 8,000 rounds of 545x39. Most of it is 7N6 in the 1080 round cans which I purchased several years ago when I could get the cans shipped for what amounted to 13 cent a round. I got into the 545x39 initially as a cheap practice ammo. However, I became quite enamored with the caliber. I found that out to 200 plus yards it is very accurate. Both guns have been flawless, however in the last couple of years I have not shot them or my 556 guns very much.....health issues and too many handguns. |

7n6 "banned" ammo is still readily available and not that much more expensive than the commercial stuff. |
