Kahr PM9 vs Springfield 5" Loaded 1911
I know, not exactly an equal comparison in any way. I came across a used springfield loaded 1911 for 600 that looks in great shape. Problem is I don't have 600, so I am left with the decision of should I trade/consignment my Kahr PM9 or let someone else get the 1911. I already have a springfield loaded 1911 in stainless, this one is parkerized and I love the idea of having another 1911. I love the 1911 and do carry my 1911 on a fairly regular basis, however it does not have nearly the concealability of the Kahr. So what would you do, give up the small pocket concealable Kahr for the 1911, or let a great deal pass you by and keep the kahr?

I'm a huge Kahr fan, and I'll probably never own a 1911...
BUT!!! If you love the 1911 style and you really think you won't find another deal like this one on this one, then you have to ask yourself if you think you could find another deal on a PM9 later on if you so desired one again. I know PM9s in my area are really hard to find, but if they're a dime a dozen where you're at then maybe the 1911 deal is one not to pass up? |

getting rid of the Kahr for me would be easy ...I'm not a fan ...
I'm assuming both 1911's are chambered in .45 acp ...so the 2nd one seems a little redundant since you already have another Springfield 1911. I'm not suggesting that one 1911 is enough ( I have 8 1911's / 3 of them chambered in 9mm, one in .40 / the rest in .45acp ) but there is something different in each gun ......caliber, finish, mfg, one is bob tailed, one is a 4", etc ... I carry a 1911, 5", in .45acp - a Wilson CQB model ...and I practice with a lot of 1911's in 9mm, etc ......and I believe in carrying the gun I shoot the best ! If I want to go to a smaller carry gun / I go to a Sig 239 model ( single stack ) in .40S&W ...otherwise I stay with the CQB 5" .... |

I have a Kahr CW9 and perfectly happy. I don't carry my SA 1911 or my SA XDm9. The Kahr I will keep as my carry piece. The others, as much as I love them, are probably on the way back to my local gun store.

Since you love the 1911, you should go through with it.

My .02 worth?
That Kahr is just too handy as a CCW pistol. I will never sell mine, although I seldom carry it anymore (these days it's either a Kahr P45 or a 1911). Mow if you can carry a 1911 24/7/365, and actually prefer it, then go for it. But I sure like having a variety of sizes and weights of CCW pistols. |

You say you carry your 1911 "on a fairly regular basis". If you part with the PM9, you will be forced to always carry the 1911, unless you go without. I'd keep the Kahr unless you're willing to always tote the 1911, IMHO of course

You already have a 1911 Springfield Loaded in stainless. What is the point of getting one parkerized? I say keep the Kahr. From a practical stand point, the Kahr is much easier to conceal. While you say you often carry the 1911, there are times you want a gun small enough to drop into you pocket. I carry my Kahr PM9 all the time. My 1911 is just for the range.

Everytime I think about buying a new gun, I think about what I have in my collection already. What is the point in getting practically the same gun and selling a very practical carry gun? Even though you might find the 1911 to be a great deal, will having another one mean that much to you?
Now if you have the money to buy another gun just for the sake of having it, without having to sell your practical carry gun, then go for it.

I love Springfield 1911s, but, if your Kahr is your carry piece and you've already got a Springfield, I'd let someone else snag the 1911.

thanks for all the replies...I ignored most of you and traded my kahr and bought the 1911, or at least I will buy it when the kahr sells, it is really a consignment not a trade. I went to the shop trying to tell myself that I was going to make my decision based on whether or not I would get all the money I wanted for the Kahr. Then the dealer told me how he had sold the gun new feb 19th and it came back april 4th because the guy decided he wanted something different. So I knew the gun was still very new, which I already figured because it looked in great shape. Then he told me that since he was the original seller that if I had any problems he could send it back for me and it would still be covered under the warranty even though I wasn't the original buyer. That sold me, so as soon as my Kahr sells I will go pick up my new 1911.

Where do you place "value"? On guns you shoot? Or on guns you can carry easily, all the time, wearing anything? I'd go back and get the Kahr. A trusty daily carry pistol is much harder to replace than a Parkerized Springfield. A gun I can carry all the time is far more valuable than a second version of something I already have. 1911's are everywhere, no way would I trade off a PM9 so that I can now have TWO of the same 1911's. I sold my PM9 several years ago because I moved to a lousy non-CC state, now I'm back in MO and really wish I had my PM9 back. Last edited by Dashunde; May 5, 2010 at 06:38 AM. |

The Loaded is one of my favorite 1911 formats with just enough bells and whistles to suit my conservative tastes. I would have to trade.
