Is there a cold solution on the market to blacken stainless steel? I have a Remington 700VSSF and I'd like to give it a try if one's available.

NHT, not that I know of. Blackening or bluing stainless is a specialized bluing process. You might consider teflon. You can get the coating from Brownells www.brownells.com and bake it on in the convenience of your own home. Just watch out for flying objects when the smell of what you're doing in the kitchen reaches your wife's nose. George
