I use a red dot mostly, they work great for close range and out to 100yds, where I am not looking for exacting precision. I can shoot with them at longer ranges, but bullet drop makes using holdovers a necessity past 300yds using a 50yd zero. Holdovers are not too difficult at 400yds, and are more difficult beyond that... but on the whole, it's not an ideal use of a red dot. I have used the A2 iron sights out to 500yds, but they have elevation adjustments set up for known ranges.

I have a 1-4x for increased precision out to a couple or three hundred yards.

I have a 10x and 12x for the best accuracy I can, at 100yds and beyond.

If you plan on using silhouette targets at 25yds out to 100yds, get a red dot.

If you are using bullseye or point targets at 100yds or more, get a higher power magnified optic.

If you want to do both, but mostly the first, and you are limiting your max range to 200yds or so... get a 1-4x or 1-6x scope.

Upper, bolt, and handle FINALLY came to my door. Good lord, lowest shipping I've seen in modern times

Everything looks great. There is a lack of black coating underneath where the lower will attach..but I assume the melonite takes care of any concern.

Few more days and the lower arrives. Yeah

The barrel is Nitride not the upper receiver . It is Anodized and should be black everywhere .

I'll snap a pic, but if I recall, the black finish did not cover where the lower will come together on the inside. The upper is not a blem, though the lower is blem.

I will agree with someone who previously said the Freedom's finish doesn't look bad. The barrel looks great.

Thanks for staying tuned to see if something isn't right...

It is the lighter grey I am asking about. No black coating at all...

Hard to tell...

Is it exposed aluminum, or just the teflon inner coating being a little thick in that spot.

I couldn't tell you. I do know the black coating completely stops on the inside. It's grey, but I wouldn't say it appears to me to be naked metal...

I should add, my thumb is pulling down the dust cover in the picture, but that isn't what I am speaking to. I am looking at the grey finish above.

It's interesting because how anodizing is applied . It hard to see how that complete area was some how missed . Either way it's aluminum and is gtg regardless . It's not going to rust or anying and basic maintenance should prevent any other issues .

Yeah, the entire part gets the anodizing at once... I bet it is the teflon coating you see.

I kinda figured the aluminum part made it a non issue, but thought I would check with you gents.

Thanks for the help on this part. I'll follow up when I get the lower.

When you get all set up with the lower, begin a new thread; you could reference the URL of this thread or include a brief summary.
