Bench Rest Primers

As I was reloading some ammo today I noticed a box of ''bench rest primmers'' .. Just wondering if they are supposed to be better for ''bench rest shooting'' or what?

Not necessarily "better", but supposedly a bit more consistent. According to a CCI tech guy, it means they have 3 guys watching the machine spit them out instead of 2. They are slightly higher priced than regular primers. Probably not worth it unless you can't find any regular primers.

As said, they're supposed to be more consistent. I have never used "regular" primers but my CCI BR loads in 3 different cartridges will shoot around 1/2 MOA or better. I need to try the "regular" variety to see if they perform as well. The BR primers (CCI anyway) are about 50% more expensive.

The makers try to keep all primers as consistant as possible at rational prices. They take extra care on some and the price reflects it. Doesn't mean standard primers are a bit different, just insures that the premium priced ones are the best they can make. Precious few factory sporters will ever notice any difference.

Bench Rest Primers

From 50 years of shooting and reloading since 1970, I can tell you that if TARGET ACCURACY is what you want, they are worth the extra money.

I use the Fed Match primers in all my reloading... when I can get them.
