Western 38-66
I have a Western 38-66 cartridge.
Find plenty of info on 38-56 but not 38-66. Anyone familiar with this one? |

My wife's eyes are better than mine and it turns out to be a 38-56 after all. 2.50" overall. Thanks anyway Jim

There's a .38-56 WCF and a .38-56 Improved. Line drawings with dimensions are here. http://stevespages.com/page8d.htm
There's nothing about either on the SAAMI site. Buckets of info via a net search. The WCF was originally used in the Win M1886. A rifle in decent condition runs $3500ish USD. Buffalo Arms loads it. Not for cheap though. $60.80 per 20. Uses a .379" bullet.

My nephew forms .38-56 from .45-70 brass. The form die is a little pricy and he does have to turn the neck but it isn't that hard to form.
