Need reloading advice

Lee reloading manual says that 2.3 gr of Win 231 will send a 98 grain lrn 32 S&W long out of the barrel at 737fps. All I can get of the same load is 573fps. Why is my load so far below? (164fps) Good grief.

Barrel length is one factor. Another is bullet crimp or lack there of.

Yep. You need the same barrel length the orginal load was developed in or your velocity will be different. It'll be somewhat different anyway just because of dimensional differences in your chamber and theirs and in your barrel and other parts of the gun mechanism verses theirs. Also, make sure you didn't get a cast and a jacketed bullet load confused? Their not interchangeable as far as ballistics go.
