Post #31 is useful. You can also send it back.

Interesting thread. After reading all the post, both sides of the coin, I have to say I appreciate all. My vote at the end of all this would be to go Steel. In fact, no matter what model of gun, I will try and go steel and stay away from aluminum.

Every gun has a style and purpose , for a carry or target shooter. As long as you shoot a load that's recommend an maintain it properly , shoot it as much as you like. Even with us ,as we get some years under our belt , we slow down alittle but never quit , may have to repair or replace a part every once an awhile . No big deal.

I encourage folks to use the search function here and on other forums to study this question more. It pops up every few months. Often next to the question on how durable polymer frames are.

In about 1949 Colt introduced the first alloy framed pistol made in the U.S. (and possibly internationally as well) It was the Commander chambered in 45acp, 38 Super, 9mm and 30 Luger. The latter for the Spanish market. It was also the first time that any U.S. company produced a pistol in 9mm, but that's another story. Colt later produced a steel framed version. The alloy framed Commander has been in continuous production since then.

In the post war period S&W began to produce semis in defensive cartridges as well. It began with the Model 39 with both steel and alloy frames by the mid 1950s. From these first Gen through third Gen pistols S&W made both steel and alloy framed handguns.

Walther introduced their aluminum alloy framed version of the P-38, the P1 in the mid 1960s.

Sig and Beretta both have produced many hundreds of thousands of alloy framed duty guns over the decades which armies and police forces have carried daily as well as many competitors and individuals. Others have done the same.

Every major manufacturer of 1911's (there may be one or to that don't, maybe) produce aluminum framed 1911s designed for carry. Colt, Kimber, Ruger, S&W, Springfield, RIA and others produced them and variations of the theme, in growing numbers. Many of the custom and semi custom shops, Wilson, STI, Nighthawk, Christiansen Arms and many others do the same.

For close to 70 years alloy framed 1911s have been truckin'. There are more of them today than ever. That's a clue.

If you like 1911s and know them then you likely have a alloy framed 1911 variant somewhere.

If you don't know 1911s and want to, get a steel one and learn and then get an alloy frame for CC.

Nice post , keeping our firearms 100% reliable . Some don't want holster wear . Work an conceal carry firearms are to be used just like any other tool.

This is why I have range handguns to shoot thousands of rounds through, and CC handguns to shoot hundreds of rounds through.
