Does the Mossberg 500 have a disconnect?

I just started reading the book Unintended Consequences and it is mentioned in there that some people can fire a pump shotgun faster than an automatic by holding the trigger down while pumping, if the gun does not have a disconnected. Does the Mossberg 500 have one? And if so can it be disabled?

From personal use of the Mossberg and basically no other make... I say it has what ever to disable the trigger and hammer during cycling.
I have had to just learn to cycle my trigger finger faster to get rapid fire speeds up near auto loader speeds. I hear there are 2 older models of different brands that from factory would "speed fire" I don't know if it is possible to modify the Mossberg to do so. One may have been a Winchester and the other may have been an Ithica.

I don't think it can be safely disabled. You'd be setting up for slam fires, basically. You potentially could get an out of battery detonation. Bad Ju-Ju

The Winchester Model 12 was infamous for its lack of a disconnector.

500/ 590 series shotguns DO have a disconnector, I have never tried to alter this, don't believe it can be done safely!!!

You can slam fire the M-12 and older Ithaca M-37 shotguns, some folks ARE just as fast as with a semi auto. Hard to stay on target or sweep to the next target without LOTS of practice.

Yet another reason to love the Ithaca 37 .

Mine will do this. It's a lot of fun.

I'm not convinced that it's necessary for rapid fire, though, if you practice a little and pay attention when you pump.

I'm curious if something like the Winchester 1300's "Speed Pump" might be more effective in speeding things up.

It does have a disconnect, The Ithaca 37 and older winchester 12s did not. The Winchester 1897 trech gun didnt have one either and i guess it gained quite a bit of infamy as a nasty piece of work.

theM97 has a "recoil lock" on lower left side of carrier.
It's intended to keep the action closed for max pressure, then retract for operation. When it broke the action would allow "slam fires" but would break the action.
