Please recheck that serial number. I think the K-22 masterpiece numbers started in the 682400 range in 1940 the earlier K22 outdoorsman numbers started in the 632000 range and production began 1931.

1956 for serial numbres from K266165 to K288988 ... for the model 17's or 18's.

The term K-22 gets used generically on both / although the model 18's are really a "K-22 Combat Masterpiece" and the model 17's are the "K22 Masterpiece" ).

K22 grip panel

Maybe it'd be of interest to you, some post wartime S&W.22 revolvers had the grip panels serial numbered to the frame. If this is the case with yours, and should you chose to change out the grips, don't toss the originals.
