45 Colt Schofield

Greetings from Australia,

Am looking at getting a Uberti Schofield in 45 Colt for something different to shoot in western action, I currently shooting a pair of Uberti Thunderers in 45 colt & like shooting them but I like the look of the Schofield & want to get one

Could you please tell me about your experience with the Schofield revolver.

I've never had a Uberti made gun that was sub-standard. My Schofield is in .44-40 and imported by Navy Arms and is an extremely well made revolver. My only complaint (Everyone has an only complaint, right?) is that it prints quite low on the target at 25 yards, about ten inches low. That's a lot of front sight to remove, and would make it look odd, so I'll just remember to hold high.

Other Uberti's I have include a Lightning .38 spl., several SAA clones in .45 Colt, and a couple of rifles. All of them have been great guns.

Had three different brands. One, San Marco's maybe, was absolutely horrible. Miserable gun. The second, a Navy Arms, worked perfectly. Both of these were in 45 Colt. Didn't really care for the design but certainly the Navy Arms gun was excellent.

Also had a Smith & Wesson. REALLY overpriced I thought. Worked about as well as the Navy Arms but must have cost at least twice as much. Absolutely NOT worth the money. It shot WAY off from the point of aim and it would freeze up easily if dirt got into the wrong place. Returned it to the S&W Performance Center for both of these faults (two trips, one each) and they only lost the gun once. Took them months and months to find it but at least when it came back it didn't work (the dirt problem).

I REALLY love Smiths. I REALLY like their Performance Center guns. I REALLY don't like the service from the Performance Center and I didn't like their Schoefield.

The S&W PC, incidentally, has had a number of bummers including their 646 40 S&W revolver and their 38 Super revolver.
