Date of manufacture model 60 stainless

I was wondering what the date or year of manufacture of my S&W stainless model 60 is.
It has a pinned barrel. It does NOT have a recessed cylinder.
The serial # starts with an "R". I believe they started that in '69. So many seem to omit the last 2 or three digits so I'll do the same. Perhaps someone would tell me why that's a good idea.

The serial number is R2232XX.

Thanks in advance

One that old would not have a recessed cylinder.

Cylinders on the .38s were not recessed.

I'm pretty sure, but not 100% sure, that the cylinders on the .357 Magnum Model 60s were also not recessed.

No recess just pinned until about 82 on the Model 60.

Thank you! I've had this revolver for 10 years. It came with original box. It's over 40 years old. Although I game with the original grips, it has a nice pair of grips. I purchased at the local gun show shortly after I purchased it at a local FFL. Not sure how to post a picture but I'll figure it out
