Ruger 10-22 help needed

The bolt on my 10-22 locks open when I shoot.
I wonder if I installed the '' Bolt Lock Spring '' wrong.
Does the upper part (straight section) of the spring install under the Ejector Pin?

That would be my guess. The spring has a dog-leg end and a straight leg end. The dog leg should rest on top of the bolt stop and the straight end should be pressing under ejector pin. Remember that this coil spring when properly installed, is under compression and pushing down on the bolt stop. That is if you are working with the original factory bolt stop.

I modified the stock Bolt Lock because they are a real pain to operate.
If you look at the stock Ruger Bolt Lock and compare it to the Volquartsen Bolt Lock, you'll see a big difference in the shape of the hole.
There's a hole in the Bolt Lock, it's got a '' pointy '' section at the top. If you grind the point off, it works MUCH better.
BUT, you SHOULD NOT grind it so it is perfectly straight (that's where I screwed up), it MUST have a slight arc/radius at the top where the '' pointy '' part was.
I made the correction from straight to radius and it works fine............

I know what you talking about as I have been thinking about doing the same thing rather than buying one. Thought that once I can do one, I can do others for my shooting buddies. So, where the sharp point is one the bolt stop, you want to put a slight radius, correct? I notice that the Volquarzen as different from the Power Custom. You know that most folks can live with the factory bolt stop and it's operation. Good info and I thank you.

There are GREAT instructions on the '' Ruger 10/22 Help Site''.
Go to this site, find the section called '' Part Installer Help''.
A box will drop down, click on '' Bolt Open Lock Plate ''.
The picture at the very bottom will best show the radius that I described.
As far as putting up with the stock bolt lock goes, I have nowhere near the patience for that thing, I found it to be a real **** on a great little rifle.

Great info and truly appreciated. I will go there, if I haven't already. I am a tinkerer and the 10/22's are some of my favorites and get much satisfaction doing trigger jobs. This really adds much to a great little rifle. Obvious you enjoy tinkering with these as well. Thanks again and as usual;
