Taurus Millenium PT-145:would you buy it?
I've been seeing some good deals online for it, and I gotta say I could possibly work it into my carry arsenal if I want more power than the 9mm.What's everyone else's opinion of it? Is it picky about ammo? Is it reliable? For those of you who own one, do you find it to be easy to carry? Would you recommend one? I know Taurus hasn't had the best reputation lately, but I really like the idea of a subcompact .45 with a 10-round capacity. If it comes with a spare mag, then I'm sold!

I doubt you'll get many positive responses here, but the gun does have a huge fan base in the Taurus forum among the people who own it. I'm pretty sure it comes with 2 mags.
I don't own one so I can't provide a personal opinion. Good luck on whatever you decide. |

I've got a Millennium Pro PT111 and it's a good little gun.
I've shot the PT145 and it seemed like a decent gun too. The one thing I don't like are the Heinie Straight 8 sights. Once you get used to them they are OK, but I prefer 3 dot. |

I had one, it was a great size for carry and I thought I would love it... What I didnt love was that it would not fire at all unless you purposely pulled the trigger to the right.
I could not trust it for CCW.... The overall opinion seems to be its a toss of a coin, either you get a great weapon at a low price or you get a nightmare at a low price.

I had one a few years ago and it was fine. Carried 10 rounds of .45, fed everything I put in it with no problems whatsoever. Very easy to shoot and accurate as all get out for me. I'd have no problem carrying one today; the only reason I don't have it anymore is I let my son shoot it and he liked it so much I let him keep it. I've had other guns since then, just haven't had a reason to get another Taurus. Maybe someday, just too many other things going on now...
Despite the naysayers, there's nothing wrong with the PT 145...

Got one despite a negative experience with another Taurus pistol - the pt709. I have the MP 145 DS with the short 3.25" barrel. I REALLY like it...no issues with it at all. Initially - I thought it shot low but I benched rested it and it was spot on... I have put probably about 300 rounds through it without one single malfunction. I thought hard about giving Taurus another chance. For the price point? It's a keeper. I just got another mag for it and an inexpensive holster. I will say - that the pistol size and the .45 ACP caliber makes for some interesting shooting. A little beefy but fun. I put a Hogue rubber wrap around grip and it helped a bit. Anyway - that is my experience. |

My one friend has that Taurus, he likes it and says it's been totally reliable.
I have the TCP and it has been flawless since I bought it, and it gets shot regularly. I like the TCP so well in fact, that I've been looking at other Tauruses to buy from their 24/7 model line. The guy at the gun counter that day tried desperately to make me NOT buy the TCP. I wouldn't listen and I'm glad I didn't. |

first let me say for 45 i am a 1911 man thru and thru. i never thought i would have the need or want anything other than the 1911 in 45 cal. having said that i bought a taurus pt-145 on sale one day. it has been absolutly flawless from day one. it holds 10 +1 which i like and is a convienent size for cc. it is accurate with the straight eight sights and allows for quick target sighting. i like the taurus pt-145 so much i use it as a daily carry and i have since purchased the pt-709 slim in 9mm which has also been flawless since day one.
i still love my colt, springfield and taurus 1911's but the taurus pt-145 has been a fine trouble free and accurate handgun and i'm glad i got it.

Had it and sold it. Not a bad gun but not a great gun. Does come with two magazines. Looks great on the outside and much cheaper on the inside when it is field stripped. It takes a lot of skill to control a subcompact 45 ACP. Hats off to those who can master this gun, but as for me it was very uncontrollable.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR PASS ON THE Taurus Millenium . If you want 45 power ,the Colt Defender is great, the S&W M&P C is also great ,the Glock is proven. There are many better choices than the Taurus out there.

I had a unique experience. My friend and I bought consecutively numbered PT145s. Mine did fine and my friend doesn't even consider his to be functional.

My own thoughts
On this topic are as follows:
1. The taurus is of the right size for carry 2. comes with two magazines 3. no sub-capacity mags. Taurus may not have th best reputation, but they have some goo products and I already know I want one- now just gotta start saving up for it!

Mine is a 3rd gen PT145pro and its been a good carry gun. It carries 10+1. Mine is accurate enough considering its 3.25'' barrel. I shoot all different brands and types of ammo with no problem. For the price its a good gun in my opinion.

I like mine, bought an extra mag from midway for 30rds, fobus makes a paddle holster for it. mine shot low but not anymore. with the fobus and an untucked shirt it conceals nicely.

I think I have seen more people posting problems with glocks here lately than taurus. Maybe that is just me. As for the OP...if you like the gun buy it. You can't base things simply on what people say about a specific gun. A lot of people hate taurus. I have nothing bad to say about them as I own 2 and both have been flawless. I think if we base our every day choices on what everyone else thinks or says life would be pretty dull and boring. If you like the gun go ahead and get it. Good luck. |

I've had mine for years. Runs fine, shoots whatever I run through it.
Others have had problems. Bottom line: If you get a good one you've got a gem. If you don't, you've got a useless POS.

PT 145 Millenium Pro
Great gun, shot well, carried well, no problems. Read so much misery about it I sold it for $25 less than I paid for it. Now carry a SR9C but I miss carrying a .45. I hope they release a SR45C soon.

My only Taurus is the 740 Slim. It eats everything, has had no malfunctions, but the construction/quality is horrible when you look at the details. The pistol has to be "finessed" apart and reassembled, it is never done exactly the same each time as with most pistols. The barrel is not even straight in the slide, resulting in horrific accuracy problems. Taurus obviously knew about these problems, because its no wonder they put adjustable sights on it instead of correcting the quality issues. Adjustable sights on a small, slim "near" pocket pistol? Now I know why.
It's a beautiful pistol, but under its skin is a pig. I would rate it as a cheap gang-banger quality gun. Due to my personal experience with my Taurus, I would not buy another one. |

No no no...Hell no!!!
Don't you dare! I'm not one to bash guns, but in this particular case. I have owned it, personally. Not a friend of a friends cousin. ME. I owned one..Never again will I purchase Taurus and I am in the city where they are serviced and assembled and I'll still never buy one ever again. I had the exact on you mentioned. Taurus Millennium Pro PT-145 Bought it a while back for $580 almost $600....Yes I got taken. Anyways, took it out to the range...It felt solid in my hands and all. 5 shots fired and the slide locked forward. No one could get it opened. 3 days later someone who was more familiar opened it up. Gave it another shot...Same damn issue. I wasn't huge into "let's fix this" then so I didn't call customer service to help me fix it. Guns aren't supposed to ever do this brand new I thought to myself. Didn't even let me break it in. A piece of plastic even chipped off somehow. Just a disaster. Sold it back to the shop for $250 Later on I find out my (then) buddy bought one and it's was one issue after the other. Look elsewhere, please. For the sake of life. EDIT///// Oh and I forgot. I had that mindset of guns aren't supposed to do this because of my Glock 22 which was my first guns and my Browning High-Power. Last edited by Tactical Jackalope; July 15, 2011 at 01:25 AM. That said, I know of Taurus horror stories. But I also know that at least one of their product lines is first rate. And I've got an example of that line. My PT-92 has been 100% since day one. The only fault it has ever had was due to some extra light handloads that didn't have quite enough oomph to lock the slide back on an empty magazine. And that's it. Completely boring. Magazine in, magazine out. One range session to the next. Same ol', boring ol' reliability. Feeds anything and everything I give it, no problem. Bang, bang, bang. Bang, bang, bang, bang. Bangitty bang, bang, bang. No hiccups. Energizer bunny, it just keeps on ticking, doing what it is supposed to be doing. Yeah, it does have a nasty little habit of flinging the empty case from the last round in the mag straight back at me, right in the forehead. I can live with that, no big problem. In a way, it is a feature, telling me that the mag really is empty. Oh, and from what I've heard, and what I've seen, my one data point is not at all an outlier. It seems that the entire PT-92 family is like that. Close cousins to the current generation Berettas. Common ancestry, authorized clones.

They have to be doing something right or they would go out of buisness. As more and more people would get lemons, the word would spread fast and put them out, why hasnt this happend yet?
I have wanted a pt145 for a while but due to my last tuarus experiance i havnt yet. As many know i owned a Pt945. The gun its self ran fiine, the magazines were the problem. Id fire the gun and the recoil would cuase the baseplate off the mags and the ammo would fall out of the gun. This was a long time ago, and i didnt have internet nor could i find replacement mags anywere. From what im gathering, tuarus is having alot of problems with there polymer lines of guns. Im thinking that the all metal lines are the lines to purchase, as i here less reports of problems with them. After all i still want a nother pt945, i loved the gun but couldnt get mags for it, now i can. Question to the anti tuarus guys here, and those who know more about there products, what is the reputation of the 24/7 series of guns? I was looking at the full size 24/7 in 9mm and it felt good in the hand. Is it a decent gun, or is there lots of problems with them as well? |
