250-3000 savage and 250 savage

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the two? I have a 250-3000 and can not find shells for it but i can get 250 savage. Is it compatible with each other.

Yes, they are the same...

The barrel twist of the 250-3000 marked guns sometimes means they are meant for smaller weight bullets, but otherwise it's the same caliber.

The "3000" was added for marketing, since it was the first commercially available cartridge that would push 3,000 fps which was unheard of when it came out, so they called it the 250-3000.

And what's so ironic about this: Brass, loaded ammunition, and rifles for the commercialized wildcat (.22-250 rem) are much more readily available than for the parent cartridge (.250 savage).

I like the old name but end up calling it the .250 Savage quite often anyway.

My favorite deer rifle is a Ruger M77RL in .250-3000.
Midway sometimes has new brass. The last batch I got was Winchester.
Most of the brass I have is from Remington factory loads.
