25-06 and 308 Receipies

Finally got my equipment. It only took a year and I am ready to rock as soon as the weather breaks.

Would anyone be willing to share their pet loads for the 25-06 with me? To narrow it down, I will be shooting 117 grain Sierra gamekings and 117 Hornady SST. I also want to load some 87 grain (or close) for coyotes so if anyone has a pet load and bullet for that I would be interested. Also, anyone shooting a 22 inch barrel 25-06 would get me even closer. I have a Stevens.

Before anyone starts screaming about using someone elses data. I will check and double check for safety in my books. I just would like ideas of what has worked for others. I don't know anyone who reloads for the 25-06.

Thanks in advance

Both of my 25-06 love max loads of imr 4831, and 4350,117 gr hornady btsp interlocks, in front of cci magnum primers. One favors 4831, the other 4350. My 308 prefers a medium charge of imr 4064 with a 165 gr hornady interlock, and a cci large rifle primer. Good luck, both are great cartridges. flyboy
p.s. be careful start at the minimum and work your way up! Better than getting blown up! all rifles are different.

Thanks for the replies. I will do a search just wanting a few quick responses to get me started. I may have asked this last year myself when I thought I was getting the reloading equipment. I didn't think about it until now.

My gun likes H4831 for the 87 grain bullets and Retumbo for the heavy bullets. You can find load data on the Hodgdon website. Retumbo even works well with 100 grain bullets.

I reload both the 25-06 and the 308. In the 25 I shoot a 75 gr V max, 58 grains of IMR 4831. My daughter just shot a pretty decent buck with it this year, but I don't think the V max in any caliber is good for big or medium sized game. I have a tendency to stick with the spire point for more penatration since the Vmax fragments on contact. I usually start in the middle and work a few grains or tenths of grains and then shoot 4 shot groups till I find one I like. I haven't done a lot with the 308 since I just got it, I have some 110 gr V max loads with that, but am planning on going to a hornaday 150 or 155 grain BTSP. I reload the 7mm rem mag, 22-250, 45 acp and 44 mag.
Later, Mike

25/06

Tony,

I have not loaded for the Sierra, but the SST in my rifle likes H4831SC, Win mag primers and Rem casses. Groups small enough to varmit hunt with!! I've had the same result with Nosler 115gr. Partitions.

Good luck, Tim.

My "pet" loads fro the .308Win and The 25.06 are: .308- 150gn Hornady SST,
46.5 gn Varget , WInchester Lg Rifle primer,Winchester cases. I forget what the C.O.L. is but this load produces a little ragged one-hole group out of my 26'' bbl Mauser.
The 25.06 load consists of-117 gn Hornady SST, 52.0gn of H-4831sc, Winchester Magnum Lg Rifle Primer, Remington cases. I shoot this load in a TC ProHunter and it has proven to be exceptionally accurate.
Remember , if you are going to use these recipies to reduce them by 5% when starting and work back up, as these are close to maximum loads.

you definitely have the right bullet - as others have said, 4831 or 4350 will work excellent.

this was out of a 26" barrel so take it for what it.. is work your loads up, but this gun generally liked loads about 1 - 1.5 gr under max.

117 BTSP H4831 50.50 gr
117 BTSP H4350 46.50 gr 3.170 COL

I use 64 grains of H870 with a 120 grain hornady hollow point bullet in my 25-06...........it puts em down for the count.

Packnheat, RL-19 should work well. I have used and STRONGLY recommend using RL-22!

Hi Jsr76 I have tried Reloader-22 in my 25.06 and it just did'nt like it, not one of the loads i made and tried with R-22 grouped good. The wife got me the R-19 for CHRISTMAS and i figured i may use it for my 25.06 and .243 Win. Any load info you could supply would be greatly appreciated, or you could pm me if that would be better.

If you are after varmints with the 25-06, try 75 grain VMax bullets and varget near max. Bad medicine on yotes. For deer try H4831sc and Nosler Accubonds near max. Great loads in 26 inch varmint barrel
