I use the NEI version of the RCBS 458-405-FN and AA 5744. I shoot a repo '74 Sharps at 1200-1300 fps. Plenty for what I do with the rifle.

Redhawk,
Rather than go into details of specific loads (lots of them out there), let me point you to resources: M.L. McPherson has written extensively on working up loads in the Marlin action specifically. He is a regular contributor to Precision Shooting magazine and has written several books, including Metallic Cartridge Reloading. Contact PS about back issues related to Marlin loads. I would also recommend, since I have the same Marlin, that you consider fire lapping the barrel. For cast bullets in the Marlin this process is a Godsend. It greatly reduces the effort needed to clean this gun and improved accuracy on mine. I favor the NECO method, though the others will work. The deep Ballard rifling will not be adversely affected in the least. Nick |
