domestic terrorism

it seems like lately every shooting crime is being labeled "domestic terrorism" this has me a bit worried. will government be able to bring stricter laws if something is labeled "terrorism"? before a shooting was just a shooting. does them throwing the T word in give them more power or is it some ploy by the anti-gun people to make guns seem more terroristic to the public?

I suppose violent acts committed in the promotion of a political or social agenda are going to be labeled terroristic acts; having said that I am not sure that acts committed by the mental ill should be considered terrorist acts.

Also, I do see your concern as we have seen high ranking government leaders using various strategies to implement policies that the legislative branch would not. So, could the Office of Homeland Security implement an Assault Weapons Ban if they deemed it necessary to reduce the risk of terrorist acts? I have no idea, but it does seem at least theoretically possible.

If the government is telling us there is a risk of domestic terrorism then we need the second amendment more than ever.

I happen to believe the cartels are a greater risk to national security than Al Qaida.

Although it was obviously fiction I read a Tom Clancy book where the cartels and the Islamic terrorist groups were cooperating and sharing resources. The cartel then assisted a terrorist cell in entering the US. Also, the book had one of the plots foiled by armed citizens. Can’t remember the name of the book, but it was one of the more recent.

@maestro my thoughts exactly... using violent crime as a way to get people to give up there right to protect themselves boggles my mind! what boggles my mind even more is that people fall for it

@barry sounds like a pretty good read

There is nothing wrong in having religious are ideological beliefs or differences. You cross the line when you advocate and use violence to achieve those beliefs by causing fear and terror to coerce people. That is what I consider terrorism.

Where would they get the authority to bypass the legislature for such a thing?

If someone's calling gun owners domestic terrorists, I'd like to hear who.

Otherwise, this is just broad politics and conspiracy theories, and we don't do that here.

I just see some unsupported conspiracy speculation.

When it happens for real, as Tom suggested, we can discuss it.

Plenty of other places to fret on the Internet and have your concerns monitored by the NSA.
