Julia Roberts in Sleeping With The Enemy.

At the end, after her ex-husband tells he won't let her live without him, she calls the police and tells them to come quickly, she just killed an intruder. She hangs up and THEN shoots him; it gives him a moment to see that she's not going to let his threat happen.

And of course, Sigourney Weaver as Ripley in Aliens; I don't know what kind of gun she used at the end, but it was badass!! (didn't it also have a grenade launcher?)

Ripley's pulse rifle was a converted, HEAVILY converted Thompson subgun with cosmetic add-ons. There is one realistic replica made with a full auto Thompson and a Remington 870 SBS. No, it ain't for sale...

Jamie Lee Curtis in Blue Steel did OK. And of course, nobody will ever forget Terminator II with Linda Hamilton one handed racking that shotgun over and over again, trying desperately to stop the T-1000 from killing her son.

"6 Guns" is a great movie where a lady's husband and family murdered by a gang, then she learns how to shoot from a paid hitman, and seeks revenge on the bad guys. It's all wheel guns. Decent movie.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again.

Restaurant kitchen scene where Nikita must carry out a hit in order to pass her final test proving to her mentor she is ready for active duty.

Not the best choice for a slight build, but she has a DE with a spare mag.

Judging by the recoil there is a tinsy winsy possibility that the film's armourer had modifications made to shoot something a tad smaller than .50cal ...

Still one of my favourites!!

Pond, bear in mind that the first DE to hit the US was the .357, followed by the .44. I am not sure if we had the .50AE when the Parrilaud version of Nikita came out.

I remember laughing at a scene in "NYPD Blue"--a show I liked a lot after David Caruso left the cast--in which one of the women detectives was forced to shoot a guy. She used a J-frame. There was absolutely no muzzle flip. Not a damn twitch.

As for the DE with actual .50AE ammo, the beast should be mounted in a turret, on a tracked vehicle. Just my opinion...

The restaurant scene in the American version ("Point of no Return") is pretty good too. But in that one, the pistol is a more-reasonable custom Hammerli 280 .22lr:

TV series, not movie, but Southland had an episode where Lydia brings an eyewitness to a shooting into her home. The shooter was a gang member, and his gang comes to Lydia's house. Lydia uses a 12ga in a running shootout against gangbangers who use a variety of weapons, including SMGs.

A flawed movie, IMO but a interesting concept.

The best movie where a woman defends herself with a gun has to be Jamie Lee Curtis in True Lies! She drops an Uzi down a flight of stairs and takes everyone out! Not very realistic, but freaking hillarious!!!

As for a more realistic scene, I have to second Julia Roberts in Sleeping With The Enemy. Great ending to a great movie!

I really liked Gwyneth Paltrow in A Perfect Murder.

Granted, at the start she didn't so such a great job with her gun; first she used it to hit her murdering husband Michael Douglas in the face, then she lost it in the tussle that followed.

But I guess results are what counts, and went she let that b***** have it he went down like a mackeral on a fishing boat deck!

Good to know. I knew about the .44, but hadn't heard of the .357 version. I think that was the first time I'd seen DE. I tell you, it left an impression!!

All the same, in that scene the recoil was that of a ported Ruger MkIII...

I guess that really wasn't defensive though. She was definitely taking the fight to the Queen.

Well, that's better than the opening of Charlie's Angels, where we were treated to Kate Jackson recoiling, except for the last round where recoil comes late, as if "Oh, I was supposed to jerk my wrist," every week.

She finds a sniper rifle in pieces in a case that she forgot she had (amnesia, natch). The scene where she instinctively puts it together in five seconds was very cool!

Wow, 24 posts but I'll be the first to say that I really liked "Eye for an Eye" where Kiefer Sutherland gets drawn in to a trap, gunned down and takes a stair dive courtesy of a very driven and ballsy Sally Field.

It's nothing special with regards to a gun being used in a movie, but it's a well done tale.
