It is going to depend on what gun you have. I had a Ruger that would really shoot well with 120gr bullets but I had a Winchester that would not shoot them worth a darn.

What kind of firearm are you shooting and do you know the twist rate?

As far a favorite combinations, I like 117 Hornady SP, Winchester Brass, CCI LR primers and 4350 powder, H414 works good also.

Be advised there are a lot of specs for the 257 Bob out there. and you will need to find the load that works the best in your gun.

Congratulations on your new rifle.

The .257 Robts is one of the great all-around rifle cartridges. With lighter bullets it is great for medium varminting, and with proper choice of heavier bullets and prudent shot selection, I'm told it is adequate for elk. It shines brightest, of course, as a primo deer round.

Your fine Rem 700 is fully strong enough for the full range of +P loads. I got my Ruger 77S in about 1976 or -77 and worked up my favorite load before there was a +P standard for the cartridge. I really like the Sierra 100 grain Pro-Hunter flat base spitzer over 43.5 gr. of IMR 4350 powder. This is a quite moderate load, running some 2800 fps, but it slays white tail deer all out of proportion to the indicated ballistics. It is mild enough for new and youthful hunters, and I've never had the most recoil-shy woman complain of the "kick." Both my sons, my daughter-in-law, and a few friends have all taken their first deer with this rifle.

I hope you enjoy your Roberts as much as I have mine.

Johnny

I have a Savage 110 in 257 Roberts and here are some of my favorite loads.
I have checked the chamber length and the magazine length. I seat many of these bullets on the long side.
120gr Speer Grandslam 44.6 grains RL22 winchester std rifle primer. This is a ( +p LOAD ) so reduce the charge and work your way up. This shoots 3 shots in 3/8 inch's at 100yds, RL22 is temperature sensative also.

87gr Speer hotcore 47.0 grains H4831 this is a milder load and shoots 1/2 for 3 shots at 100yds.

I also use 46.0 grains H4831 with the 120gr Grandslam with good results, this also is a +P load according to my manual.

NOTE: Reduce all charges by 10% and work them up as every rifle has different length throats.

I'll let you get your data from manuals, but I will say (though I load an Ackley improved)
H-4831SC is the powder I selected for 115-120 bullets,and H-4350 SC for 100's

I made some decent loads with AA3100,also.I like the Hogdon extreme powders.

Some folks have complained they are too lightly constructed, but on pronghorns and deer I have had very good results with the Nosler 115 Ballistic tip. They are accurate for me,fly good, and kill good slapping ribs.

The 110 Accubond is a bit tougher, but I have not used them.I suppose if I was stuck with shooting bigger game with a .257I'd use a 120 Nos partition and be close enough to not worry about BC

117 gr Sierra Spitzer Boattail
Fed 210 primer
H4350 Short cut powder

I've shot the same load in my .257 Roberts for 25 years. I originally shot H4350 but switched to short cut when it became available.
