Is Sig dropping its 1911 line ??

I've heard that Sig is dropping its 1911 line. They only have 5 or 6 1911 models on their website. Does someone know anything about that ???

SIG has been reducing their line for the last several years. They are a business and products which are not profitable are dropped. Why the 1911? Technology has moved on, and many companies produce 1911 clones. SIG wants to compete in a growing market, not in a static one. Too bad for some of us, but younger shooters like “modern” things. They buy more stuff.

I see 10 models in SIG's 1911 product line.
I haven't heard any SIG 1911 rumors.

I would, if I were them. In the last decade or so, 1911's became an overly generic commodity -- everyone makes them. Hell, you can buy a kit and make them yourself.

A well-known and liked brand is most valuable for something not everyone can produce.

Those 10 models narrow down to 7 when ypu take into consideration that many of them are the same gun on a carry version. Sig used to have more 1911 options available.

Sig only has so much production space. They'll drop a model for a while and then bring it back later when demand hits a certain point. Think of the P6/225, they brought it back for a while and now it's back on the sidelines with the P239. Eventually they'll bring it back for another limited run. It wouldn't make much sense to permanently pull the plug on single stack and limited capacity models considering the number of states with magazine restrictions IMHO.

SIG enthusiasts who finally try a 1911 may want one, and they're likely to buy a SIG 1911 rather than some other brand.

That's why SO MANY gunmakers make 1911s. The demand seems to be very slowly growing, not declining.
