Headstamp ID
Help me out here guys. I have a bunch of *I* (star I star) headstamp for 40 SW. Where's it from? Any ideas?

I believe this is the Independence brand, by ATK - the big defense subcontractor (owners of Federal and CCI).
Independence was the ATK's answer to Winchester White Box. My experience with *I* has been that it was filthy, but reliable. Clearly not made on Federal's production line, but possibly on CCI's, the brass color reminds me of CCI Lawman ammo that has been discontinued. LT |

LT,
Thanks for the info. I'll look it up and see what I can find on it. Randy Follow up: After some digging, it appears that it is made by Magtech in Brazil for CCI/Federal/ATK. My guess is that this is the same brass, and perhaps the same ammo as Magtech, which has pretty decent reloading brass. |

Randy,
The 2 boxes of Independence ammo I have, in 9mm and 40SW, are marked "Made in USA". IMHO, the CBC-marked Magtech brass is of better quality than *I* LT |
