EAA witness questions

Does anyone know where on the web I can get some good info on the specification of the EAA Witness Polymer line of guns as EAA's website is useless and doesn't even give basic information.

Thanks in advance.

Also, what is everyone's view on EAA guns? Experiences and issues would be helpful

I can't help you out with the polymer pistol specs but maybe I can give some input on my EAA experiences.

I bought two new EAA .45's in the Wonder finish about three years ago, one a full size, one a compact. In the high 2000 to low 3000 round counts both experienced cracking in the frames and slides (full size- one frame crack, one slide crack. Compact- four frame cracks one slide crack). EAA refused to honor their warranty because I had the guns hard-chromed due to corrosion issues with both pistols.

Summary- they were fun pistols till they broke at low round counts. I have not bought any more EAA pistols.

best wishes- oldandslow

OAS,

Do you think that the cracking resulted from the hard chroming process or could be attributed to that in any way?

Good question about whether the hard chroming could have affected the metal leading to frame and slide cracking. I also wondered about this in the past and I believe the answer is no, the hard chroming did not cause the metal failures (see below).

The first crack occurred in the EAA compact slide before any hard chroming was done. The later cracks in the full size's frame and slide and the compact's frame was after the hard chroming. I also have had five other pistols hard chromed by the same refinisher (Techplate at www.techplate.com) and have had no other metal fatigue problems despite thousands of rounds. Thus I don't believe it was a hard-chroming problem but a problem with the EAA metal frames and slides. Also if you look up Witness frame cracks on the search function of the cz forum (www.czforumsite.info/index.php) you will run across similar concerns mainly with the .45 and 10mm pistols. Hope this helps.

best wishes- oldandslow

oldandslow- You must have gotten some bad ones, as I know of several witnesses, in .45 and .40, that have gone way over 10K rounds, with zero issues, except for (Possibly) changing the recoil springs. One of these was a friend's dad's gun, he was a retired cop and it went evrywhere and is very "beat" looking, almost no blue left, and a lot of scratches on it. He's leaving it as is, 'cause that's how dad carried it for the last few years of his life.

My .45 fullsize has gone about 1500, with zero problems, and has never even jammed once.

Stick with the steel framed guns. The manufacturer is Tanfoglio of Italy, they have a website. The only place I'm aware of that sells the Witness line is Reeds Ammunition, maybe their website has the info you need??

If it's just a range gun,you can't go wrong with a Witness Elite Match...

What are you looking for that the eaacorp.com website isn't giving you?
