shortening revolver barells?
I have A M44 taurus and a raging bull 454 , both with 8 inch Barrels.
My desire is to shorter on both guns. I called Ahlmans in Minnesota about shortening the barrels and they quoted me about $60.00 each. Can that be correct, seems like a lot of work to me. Which end of the barrel is the length removed from?. would it make more sense to just replace them with factory barrels of the desired length? That way the porting, engraved logos etc would not be effected. Last edited by rallyhound; January 15, 2006 at 09:12 PM. |

Sounds cheap, my guy charges $75 and he is not high priced.
You could probably trade guns for less than the cost of rebarreling. Which I don't know where you would get done. Do you? |

short revolver bbl.
Dear Sir:
A doctor from Mayo in Jacksonville who I am training bought a Smith 500 with a 4" bbl, from Smith! We shot it. You know, the shorter a heavy revolver bbl, actually results in less recoil than a long one! Nonetheless, I have a 454, a 480, and a M44 Taurus (454 is a Ruger Super) and I would not shorten either bbl. The Super would be easiest to shorten, but I would not let ANYBODY touch the others! If your idea in shortening them is for Alaskan use the present bbls will not hinder you at all in their present length - also, revolver or pistol bbls lose alot of velocity if shortened. I wouldn't do it. Harry B. |
