I have been using steel wool and it works great.

I've used:

1. Kroil soak (the old standby)
2. Lewis lead remover (Works, but more trouble assembling/keeping in multiple gun cases than was worth)
3. ChoreBoy copper wrapped around tight-fiting bronze brush kept in gun case (simple/never fails)
4. Montanna Extreme Cowboy Lead Remover (soaked w/ #3 above -- Never EVER fails)
5. Shooters Choice Lead Remover (also soaked w/ #3 above -- Never EVER fails)
6. Lead-Way patches by KleenBore (Simplest, has never failed me no matter what I've shot)
