Favorite powder for .40 S&W

Everything I am reading is leading me to Hodgdon Titegroup.

I use titegroup for 9mm and 45acp. Seems to be accurate and clean.

It is a flake type powder, seems to miter fine for me.

I am not a fan of ultra fast powders like Titegroup in the 40. To small of a window from Min to KB and a double charge is very difficult to notice. YMMV

I like medium burners like Silhouette, True Blue and WSF for target and range use. For getty-up-go SD loads it's though to beat Longshot.

Im using titegroup right now. Im getting great groupings with it but at lower velocities than i get with Power Pistol. I like titegroup but Power Pistol over all works better for me. PP meters better, gives higher velocities and with high accuracy. Power Pistol however has a much bigger muzzle flash and report than TG. I only use TG when my LGS is out of PP.

Many rounds loaded with Power Pistol, my favorite for .40 S&W.

W231 for that, and every other non-magnum handgun cartridge I reload.

I'm really surprised Winchester Super Target (WST) isn't more commonly used. It meters well, isn't too fast, and has enough bulk that double-charging would be difficult. I like 5gr with a MBC IDP#7 (140gr lead CFP); accurate with moderate recoil. My M&P loves 'em.

AA#5 it is a powder which delivers good velocity and accuracy. It also has a pretty good sweet spot where I get good accuracy and velocity. I use this with good result in most of my handguns. Titegroup seems to be good also, but I prefer it in 38 spcl cast loads.

Longshot is ok, but it does not give top accuracy for some reason. Maybe it was using it with plated bullets was my problem. That put those plated bullets at 1250-1300, which is kind of fast for them.

Auto Comp and Titegroup is what I use the most of. I have loads for HP38/Win231 if I can't find the others.

I did a lot of research when I started reloading and started with Titegroup. I haven't found anything that I don't like about it. That is the only powder I can comment on.

I like 800X to see how much power I can get.

I like Power Pistol to see how much power I can get and still use a powder measure.

I like 3N37 for low flash.

If my kids reloaded, I would have them use Blue Dot.
I don't think they can squeeze enough in to get in trouble.

with 155 grain bullets universal works great! 1200fps and low SD. With 180s both blue dot and universal work fine... so does WAP and 231.
