How much do you pay for your ammo?

I'm at $0.09 a round for .45 ACP.

Around $0.12 for 9mm. Too poor to get really good deals on bulk.

Best I can do is about .08 for a cast boolit and .03 for a primer. Maybe .02 for powder, and effectively nothing for .45 acp brass that can be re-used a number of times.

That puts me at .15 per round. Since you are undercutting that by a significant margin, I'm guessing you are either casting your own boolits or stealing primers and/or powder.

I am not dedicated enough to cast my own boolits, and I'm not smart enough to steal primers or powder.

I'm pretty happy with .15 per round of .45 acp.

Not being able to set up a reloading operation (the fraternity housing chair was opposed to stacks of primer and powder in the house for some reason), the best I can do/have found is old boxes of Winchester Super-X .30-06 and 7mm Rem Mag for less than $20 a box at the local Big K, which has fallen on rather hard times. They also sell Allen gun bags, which I hav had trouble finding, but am greatful for since they are made in the USA.

I am not sure--What I do though (and this may work for others) is that I use my Cabela's CC for everything I purchase on a monthly basis (groceries, gas, bills, Amazon etc...) and this builds up LOTS of Cabela's Store dollars . So at the end of the month/s I use all of those points to purchase "essentially" FREE AMMO!

Now, of course, this methodology only works if one pays off the entire monthly balance which you can do if you just use your CC as a debit card or checkbook.

YMMV...

I try to pay as little as practical, it differs with the different cartridges. Been handloading most of my ammo for the past 40 years, I generally buy components, not loaded ammo.

What you pay for ammo is only significant as a percentage of your income. I can recall paying $.09 for a round of rifle ammo that today sells for $1. But back then gas was $.60 per gallon of premuim, and I earned $300 a month.

I have no idea. Price per round?

I either order online in bulk or reload. Don't keep track...no need to.

I haven't bought powder in a while, but last time I bought Winchester 231, it was less than $100 for 8 pounds. Last time I picked up primers I bought three cases for $125 a case.

I used to have a company vehicle. I'd take the vehicle to the same tire store for service- they made thousands on service on my vehicle. So, I'd throw an empty bucket in the back, and they gave me all the used wheel weights I could ever want.

$0.26 per round for 9MM. I am picky though, I only like shooting PMC, Winchester White Box, Federal and Seller & Beloit

$0.30-0.35 per round for 5.56/223

$0.40 per round for 45 ACP.

Thinking I need to get reloading gear for 223/556 at least but I do not have enough room. Priority #1 in my next home is enough room for reloading equipment.

I think there is other factors to consider.

Isn't your time, equipment, energy worth something? Maybe more stuff like energy including food, sleep, the lawn, house cleaning. You must have a very patient wife, or you live like a hermit. LOL

Please do tell.

TBS, a former mechanic (USA cars, Jap bikes, marine (OMC MERCs, no airplanes), I now pay somebody to change my oil, brake pads (no turning rotors, never, almost) coolant, tranny fluid's etc. I'm not convinced yet. I do shoot a lot of 22lr though.

i clean the shelf at cabelas of 1 pound cans of bullseye and unique. for some reason its priced at 14.99 on the shelf. but the 8 pound can works out to 17 a pound

if they are out i order from powdervalley they often have free hazmat on powder with x lb purchase and they will let you stack up to 20 lbs of primers into the order also.

another way to get cheap primers that works pretty good is to be a good customer at a lgs that doesnt deal in reloading and ask if you order can you get for wholesale plus 1 buck a box over cost and pay in cash. have been doing this all thru the primer shortage and never paid over 27 a box. alot of the $30+ boxes of primers is stores that knew people would pay it since they were "running out"

its like bread and water during a hurricane. stores charge what they can because people will buy it all creating a market driven shortage.

Nowhere near what I used to pay before I started reloading... my shooting costs are 1/3 to 1/2 what they used to be per round.

For those who say they don't have space for reloading, my bench is 2 x 3 feet in a corner of my barn. It doesn't take much.

I have realized how much money i have saved over buying factory ammo for plinking and target shooting when I had to buy ammo for my carry handguns.

This is an older set of pics of my reloading area but i currently reload 37 or 38 calibers

i have increased my reloading efforts slowly from a small single stage press to multiple dillion progressives and a bullet casting station outside. I have tried many dies over the years and find that i am drawn towards the inexpensive lee stuff because it just works plain and simple. My total investment in my reloading equipment is some where near 5-6k over the course of 10 years but that has been recovered in the first 20,000 rounds i shot which is about 2-3 months of shooting for me and my friends. on average i shoot about 100k + rounds a year at a average cost of about 4000 bucks. Most people dont believe my shooting amount till you go to the range with me and i bring 14 handguns and 250 rounds of ammo for each. add a friend or two and 250 rounds is about 15-20 minutes of shooting. especially when shooting steel targets and auto resetting steel.

I roll my own so.....

9mm is $6/50
40S&W is $7.50/50
223 Rem....$4.20/20
308 Win....$9/20

Compare that to 12 bucks for 9mm, 15 bucks for 40S&W, 8 bucks for .233, and 20 bucks for .308.

Reloading is the shiznit!

I see this one has taken a turn.

Handloading is also fun. And educational. Very much educational.

Off to Handloading.

I quit calculating the cost a while back. Truth is reloading, or buying cheap bulk factory I wind up broke either way. With reloading I tend to have way more ammo for each visit to the range. I shoot a good bit by most peoples standards. Most times 2 days a week, and bout 200 to 300 rounds per trip if it is just me. If Mrs. M&P is along then I will bring more ammo.

I like reloading, and casting both.

I don't cast, so my per round cost for 45ACP is 10.8 cents.
