Gun socks
I think I read this before in this forum. I bought a bunch of large woolen socks. I keep my pistols in them.

Yes and basically to keep them from banging against each other. Mostly nylon and the thinner the better. Have not had moisture problems with any of them....
Another why is because I'm cheap ... Be Safe !!! |

Yup
I like te idea of heavy knit (I doubt these are actually wool) because of the extra protection. I used to wrap them in cloth but I found that they came unwrapped too easy.

Cabela sells knitted gun socks that are made out of polyester/acrylic and silicone treated that are specifically for gun storage. I keep all my guns in them in the safe to protect from having them banging against one another. They work great. There are other 'brands' available as well.

Yep, those of us with tight gun safes know and love gun socks!
Your wife's nylons also work great around a pistol or revolver in gun leather if the holster is tight. When you remove the hosiery after a few days storage the gun will fit real nice - not sloppy but not so tight that it's a hassle. Best, Oly |

I use wool socks on all my pistols and home made gun socks on my muskets. One thing I hate is putting a clean gun in a dirty gun case, so after shooting it goes into the sock, into the case, when I get home the sock goes into the wash and my case stays factory new. Just something to think about.

I guess that this might be a good time to mention that I also use Knee Socks for my long guns. Again., for the same reason. These just go up to or a little past the breech area. You can still see what the gun is and the buttstock is protected. You can also use tights and just cut off the legs. .....

As Ronald Reagan always said......"Well"
I have 5 1860s and I can tell which one I am holding while it is still inside the sock. They just seem to feel different. I can't yet tell the difference between my Remingtons. And I haven't fooled around with my 1851s in a bit.
Tnx,

They sell gun socks at Cabela's store or on line for $3, now that's cheaper than home socks and these are silicone treated,
Now come on guy's there's cheap and then there's really cheap.

With a little modification, the cabelas socks also work very well for a gun cover while hunting. It keeps the Stainless Steel from shining, as well as protecting the stock from scratching. Not that we've had to worry to much about cold weather lately, but it also keeps your hands from getting so cold, holding on to your rifle, in the stand.
