Glock SF?

For us non Glock people, could a glocker explain to me what the new SF models are? I saw something about ambi-mag mag release. The grip size is reduced too?

Thanks.

It's the 21SF and soon to be 30SF (slim frame) They have shortened the grip from the front to back. They are still the same width, but the grip is roughly the same size as the G17, but about an 1/8" thicker. They also added an ambi mag release and a 1913 rail. The standard glock rail and mag catch are also still available.

Buds has a G17 and a G19 SF listed too, I see.
Will the old mags fit?

Short Frame

I guess Glock shave very small area of grip (right underneath of the butt) so that short finger people can reach the trigger easier. For the people who have big enough hand for G21 but feels stretching to the trigger, SF should helps.
But people like me with not big enough hand to start with, there is not much difference between G21 and G21SF.

It is kind of like Sig has a short trigger, Glock shave the frame.

It's too subjective IMO. A 21 is simply too big for my hand, but the 21SF is a good fit. The only way to find out if it works for you is to shoot it.

Slim Frame

The fs just stands for slim frame, it's basically still the same as a non-sf just a little more slim. For example the glock 21 in .45 acp is a pretty big sized gun , so now they have the 21 sf which is more like the size of a standard glock17, or glock22. Hope that helps

G22,

The suffix "SF" does not stand for "slim frame." The suffix "SF" denotes "short frame" in that the front-to-rear profile of the grip has been reduced by about 5 mm (0.2 in). The pistol was originally designed to compete in the now canceled US Military trials for a new .45-caliber pistol to replace the Beretta M9. It features an ambidextrous magazine release and an optional MIL-STD-1913 rail system along with a reduction in the size of the grip. The Glock 21SF (and also no the G30) is currently available in three versions: one with a Picatinny rail and ambidextrous safety and two with a Universal Glock rail available with or without the ambidextrous safety. All current 10mm and .45 caliber Glock magazines are all being made with ambidextrous magazine release cutouts at the front of the magazines.

With a handle like G22 you should be up on your Glock knowlege!

I guess it depends on who you talk with. When I did the armorer course the instructor referred to it as the slim frame

Edit: No matter what you like to call it, I like it.

I know this, of all the glocks I own, the G-21 is my least fave. I own and have owned many of these pistols, and it's hard for me to really criticize them for to much. The G-21 SF(Short Frame) is to my hand not nearly as slimmed down as it should be! The reduction is to low in the backstrap to be of much value to me, it just doesn't affect the trigger reach as I'd like it to.
Hence my criticism, instead of that freaking vanity cartridge that Gaston worked up, why not a full size version of the G-36 in 8-9 shot capacity? I firmly believe that had Glock produced that kind of pistol, right now our boys in DoD would be putting pen to paper and ordering their new service pistol...

Who was your instructor? There are only 5. I myself am a certified Glock Armorer. Doneburgh taught the most recent course I attended. According to Gaston, Doneburgh and Glock Inc. its "Short Frame." The explanation I received was calling it a "Slim Frame" is incorrect as "slim frame" would refer to the "slim line" G36 no? There is nothing "slimmer" about the 21, 30SF. They are still double stack mags, and the amount of finger reach to the trigger (due to the removal of material on the upper rear part of the receiver-the backstrap) is shorter(5mm or 0.2 in), hence you have "Short Frame."

It is a short frame, directly from Glocks Mouth to everyone's ears....

The SF's are a tad bit shorter in the grip and some people feel the difference, and some don't.

There are currently ONLY 2 models in SF, the 21sf, and new 30sf which just released at last months shot show...

Monty, You're correct about the terminology. I went back this morning and looked at my notes I took. I guess I was just having a brain fart last night. Sorry for the confusion.

Whirlwind,

My best guess is the following:

"SFS" = Steel Fixed Sights. - The crappy standard plastic sights that most glocks come with are also made in steel, hence the +$30.

"FS" = Fixed Sights. - Your standard out of the box plastic white dot contrast sights.

I've handled more than a few glocks, and own a glock 19, 29 and just acquired a 1st generation glock 17.
I must say that the first gen glock 17 feeler far slimmer than any others that I have shot or owned. The smoother grip makes it slightly slimmer.
I measured it against my 2nd gen glock 19, and it's only a hair slimmer, but the smooth rounded grips make it feel so much slimmer!
I would call this slim frame.
