What are you using for deer this season?
Just curious what rifle and caliber all you other deer hunters are using this year. I plan on carrying my savage 30-06 w/3x9 scope. Cant wait for opening day! What are you guys using? Post pics if you have em.

If my gunsmith doesn't get my rifle back to me, I may have to hit 'em with my cane. Otherwise, it'll be my Remington 700 in .243. Our deer aren't exactly world record size so that does just fine.

A rifle ...you lucky guys. Not allowed here in Ohio. We have to get up close and personal. I've always used my 12 gauge 870 with good results. This season I'm trying my Ruger Blackhawk 357.

Gonna use a variety of guns - whatever suits my fancy at the weekend's opening. But probably my .25-06 Howa 1500 and two Traditions muzzleloaders will see the most action, along with my bow. But I wouldn't be surprised if I grabbed my .45-70 Marlin 1895 once or twice. And possibly my Puma 92 in .454 Casull as well.
Art, hadn't seen that 9mm objective lens loopy before - you said 3 "by" 9. Sorry, just one of my pet peeves - of course you know it's 3 "to" 9 instead. |

Ruger SBH .44 mag S&W 629 MG 870 smoothbore slug gun for when I don't have a choice. I've taken deer in the past with all of the above except for the 629. I wonder which one will be first up? |

.50 CVA Optima Pro with a 3-9x40 Swift scope for muzzle loader season.
For firearms season, I'll have my M77 All Weather in .270 win with a 3-9x40 VX-II. I have my fingers crossed that the HS Precision stock I ordered in August will be here in time for the late season in January. I'm actually a little more excited about the equipment I'll be taking with me this year than the guns. I've been out in the field the last 3 years (haven't actually hunted because I haven't been able to take the hunter's safety course) with long johns, flannel blue jeans, and about 4 layers of sweat shirts with a BDU jacket. Every time, I've ended up with my legs freezing. This year, I have an M65 jacket and pants (both with liners) and polypropylene thermal underwear. Hopefully, the cold won't be much of an issue. |

Remington 700 Deluxe ADL .270 with iron sights (bought this sucker from safarihunter here on TFL a couple months ago and it is one of the best shooting non custom guns I have). Gonna try out the winchester supreme 130 grain balistic silvertips on the big whitetails or if I see a mulie up close.
New Thompson Center Black diamond .50cal for muzzleloader. Barnes spitfire 50cal sabots with 45 cal 250 grain polymer tip boat tails. PSE Mojo bow set at 30" and 70lbs with easton 2413's 29" with muzzy 4 blade 125 grain. If the local "huge" mulie starts poking his head out (only long distance shots) I will break out the rem 700PSS in 7mm Rem Mag with a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20X50 with a mildot ret. . Every time I see this monster mulie he is always 400 to 600 yards out, but is always presenting a perfect broadside shot.
