BP Revolver competition?

Hi BP fans. I'm new to BP so be nice please

I'm buying a Cimarron 1858 Remington Army Stainless Steel and wanted to know what forms of competition I can get involved in with it. I see NRA, Cowboy Shooting, and something called skirmishes (not sure what that is yet), are there any other types of competitions? Do I need 2 revolvers or is one all I need (I know 2 is always better then one, but I'd rather buy a few extra cylinders then a second gun)? I'm not sure I'm up for/in the mood for reinactor type competition yet, so is there any non "period correct" competition and will the Cimarron be accurate enough to compete out of the box?

I also have a T/C Cap style Hawken and hope to shoot that in competition as well, but my questions about that are going in another thread.

Thanks,

Mooney in PA

You have lots of questions and I think you'll get all of them answered. Read this thread for some insight into the accuracy question.

So I'm guessing from the thread you had me check out, the targets are so close in CAS that accuracy is a mute point?

So where do I find longer range type competition?

Thanks,

Yes; accuracy is silent.

But whether it is much required for Cowboy Action Shooting... well, some say it is so... others disagree.... such is life!

Mooney

I don't know where you live, but most black powder clubs have revolver matches at 25 and 50 yds. Matches are 10 shots on the regular NRA pistol
targets. The National Championships are held in Friendship Indiana twice a
year. June and Sept. They have matches at 50 yds and 25. You must use
only one hand un-surpported. They also have timed fire matches. That is
10 shots in 10 min. You can start with 5 shots loaded. I think the record shot
at the Nationals at 50 yds is a score of 97. The 25 yd record is 100 and 7 X's.
Here is a 50 yd. target the wife shot. I think it is a 94. In scoring the center
of the hole has to break the line in order to get the point. Hope this helps
and the best of luck to you. If I can help, I;m here. I am located in Kansas
City, We have been shooting at the Nationals for 17 years now.

THANKS!!! I found Harrisburg Hunter's and Anglers on the list and their muzzleloader group is called the Beaver Creek Muzzleloaders. They have a pistol class. I think they are newer group and they have an event this weekend and winter league starting up in January They have a pistol class so I'm on my way.
