7.62 Mauser

I aquired an old Mauser action rifle chamberd in 7.62, the action is a cock on close with butterfly safety. The rifle has had a sporterized stock put on it, there is no country of manufacture stamped on it and I have removed the action from the stock and found no markings. The rifle is very short just under 29" from crown to the back ot the bolt. I've been told that this rifle is not very safe to shoot in 7.62 or .308. I would like to find the orignal style of stock to put back on this rifle since it is questionable to use in the current caliber. I just don't want to sell this rifle to anyone else so I thought I would try to put it back to it's orignal configuration. Can you help me to identify what I have and where I might find the orignal stock.
