using old wonder wads

I have not shot my black powder pistols for a long time but I am going out around Christmas time and am in question about using old felt wads. will the lube still be good or should I just go and get some new ones. Can I just put some kind of lube on them like melted Crisco or such.

Just put them in some melted crisco, let them soak it up, then squeeze out the excess.

Yup, that would be my 2nd recommendation.

The first one would be to store them in an airtight container.

I wouldn't do a thing to them except load them & send them down range as usual.

I have some Wonder Wads that are dry. They may be that way by design. I've taken to putting a dab of Bore Butter on top of them and then pressing the ball on top of that.

I go powder, wonder wad, bore butter, ball. Works good.

Thank all of you for your help I am going to try the little dab of bore butter on top. I think that way I will only do what I think I will use for the day. Again thank to all.
