I was lloking at buying the new Henry lever action in a .22 Is this an acceptable rifle to use or do I need to look at a larger caliber? Thanks.

Howdy,
If your wanting to use it in a CAS main match,you'll need at bigger caliber rifle. .25-20 is the SASS minimum. Bellicose Bill |

Bill is correct. Need a bigger caliber. Some clubs do have side matches with a .22. Though they are usually at cardboard targets. We have nice 3/8 steel targets. And our general rule is if no one can hear it plink or the target doesn't move, you don't have a hit. Even with a .38 loaded at 650 fps, you got to be very careful to listen for the plink. Since most cowboys shoot 45 LC, that's not a problem. Got a couple of cowgirls that shoot 32-20. That's a nice caliber but gosh the brass is expensive.
